How did you get started in weddings?
Well my story is probably a little bit different than most photographers... I was married for 11 years and have been divorced now for 7. I was trying to find some images from my own wedding to show my two kids and I could only find one picture of me and their mom. It was a photo of both of us just looking at the camera. There were no sweet, beautiful moments captured from our wedding day. It was just a bunch of posed pictures. And to be honest, it kind of made me sad because I wanted to show my kids that yes, me and their mom were once very much in love a long time ago. So as I began to shoot weddings, that was my main goal, my focus - to capture those beautiful moments.
I wanted to make SURE that I was capturing the bride and groom's love and adoration that they had for one another. The day of the wedding flies by so fast and one day this couple, that were once newlyweds, is going to wake up 10 years down the road. They will go through all kinds of storms with one another but hopefully through all those years, they will be able to look back at their wedding day photos and remember... the moments, the laughs, the tears, the love, the total joy that they had for one another. And I truly believe that these memories will help give them the strength to not give up but to do whatever it takes to make their marriage last a lifetime.
What do you like most about weddings?
Wow there are so many things that I love about weddings...I love capturing that "first look"... the first time the groom sees his lovely bride or the first dance -- where it's just the two of them finally dancing as husband and wife...
Another thing that really stands out and that I love to capture is the married guests. It seems that there is so much love in the air that even these couples that have been married for a long time seem to fall in love a little more at a wedding. They hear the vows, they see how the bride and groom are looking at each other, they have that slow dance at the reception and then they remember...why they fell in love. Love is so contagious... even for me personally, I walk away from my job almost every weekend as a wedding photographer having more of a love for life.

What’s your favorite wedding picture to take and why?
My favorite part of a wedding is the Father/Daughter Dance. Having a little 10 year old girl, theres just something beautiful about a dad dancing with his little princess.

Another one of my favorite moments is watching the father of the bride walk his little girl down the aisle. I know for sure that I will be a total mess when the time comes for me to give my little girl away.

What is your service philosophy?
Like I said earlier, my goal is to not just take a picture at your wedding. My goal is to capture those beautiful moments that are going to help you remember your wedding day for years to come. As far as packages and pricing, I do offer several different packages to my clients, but if someone says that they have a certain budget, and they want certain things, I will try to work with them to customize it towards their budget. And my goal is to always try to be done with the photos by the time a couple returns from their honeymoon.

What are your strengths compared to others in your category? Why should a bride and groom hire you?
Personality wise, I love to have fun and make people laugh. I put people at ease and help them relax and have fun while I am photographing them. I love lighting. I use many different types of lighting - sunsets, flashes, reflectors, strobes, etc. The lighting can really change the total look of a photograph. There are times to use natural lighting and there are times to use artificial lighting. A pro photographer definitely knows the difference. I really try not use an on-camera flash in most of my reception images. I just feel like that anybody can capture that type of look.. and believe me, there are always tons of photographer-wanna-be's at weddings! :-) I love, love, love using off-camera lighting when I can. The options are really limitless as to what you can do with off-camera lighting! Below is a good example of just using the ambient lighting from the walls. I wanted to couple to just be a simple silhouette.

And here's an example below of using off-camera lighting.. I wanted to capture this gorgeous bride while also making sure that she wasn't over exposed by the sun.

Who are your 5 favorite Nashville wedding vendors?
2Duce2 Videography – Eugene & Heather Brown
CJ’s Off The Square
Cheekwood Botanical Gardens
Schermerhorn Symphony Center
Belle Meade Plantation

What is your favorite thing about working with engaged couples?
Connecting with them, getting to know them as a couple. I feel its so important for the bride and groom to really connect with their photographer. It's the photographers #1 responsibility to be able to read the bride and groom and how they interact with one another. That's one reason why I really try to shoot the engagement session with every couple. This session is so key for all of us to get to know one another before the wedding day and allows me to have a better idea of what their vision is for their day as well!
Where can we find you when you’re not working with a bride/groom?
At home hanging out with my kids (and editing lots of photos).
