Erin and Robert: A Hockey Loving Couple’s Downtown Nashville Engagement Session

Monday, August 5, 2013

I highly recommend that engaged couple's invest in engagement photos.  Professional photos of you as a couple are not only enjoyable but they give you an opportunity to get to know your photographer.  You also leave the session with great photos that will have many uses - think save the dates, favors, wedding signage, etc.

For their April engagement session, Erin and Robert hired a family friend, Donald of Donald Yeager Photography.  I chatted with Donald to learn more about the couple's photo session.  Hopefully after seeing their session, you will be inspired to schedule your own engagement session, either with Donald or another professional Nashville wedding photographer.

How would you describe the couple?
Erin and Robert click on so many different levels. There wasn’t a joke that Robert told that didn’t make Erin laugh out loud at, or at least bring a smile to her face and vise versa. They are such a fun- loving and energetic couple, and their love and joy is infectious.

What is their style?
Erin and Robert are really laid back, low key people. They love to spend their weekends in the fall watching football, eating hot wings, and hanging with family and friends. They are all about relaxing and enjoying the moment, and for this reason they have a very fun-loving approach to life. Their style is reflected in who they are and what they wanted for their wedding, and I think it translates to their engagement session as well. These images reflect their mutual love for one another as well as their good humor and high spirits.

In what areas of Nashville did their engagement photos session take place?
The whole session took place in downtown Nashville. We started at the Shelby Street walking bridge, moved over to the Bridgestone Arena, then headed to the Country Music Hall of Fame. After that, we walked through Printer’s Alley and up to Public Square Park. The last stop was LP field where we wrapped up the session.

How were the places for the photos decided?
Erin and Robert like football but LOVE hockey! Since both sports take place in downtown Nashville, it only made sense for their engagement session to be in and around the city they spend so much time in.

What did you most enjoy about their session?
The thing I enjoy most about any engagement session is the one-on-one time spent getting to know the couple. We chat about everything: how they met, every last detail about the proposal, and how the wedding planning is progressing. When the couple is relaxed, their personalities are easily captured. I find the best way to relax them to get them focused on one another.

Did they mention their favorite photo?
Erin's favorite photo from the session was the black and white in the alley.

What's your favorite photo?
My favorite image from the session was in front of the fountain with both of them laughing. Robert was able to coax a genuine laugh out of Erin and luckily I was able to capture it.

Congratulations to Donald Yeager and his lovely wife, Hillary, on the birth of their adorable, baby girl just last week.  And, congratulations to Erin and Robert who got married on June 8th at Holy Family Catholic Church in Brentwood, TN.  Their reception was held at the McConnell House in downtown Franklin.

Terry & Kellee, Nashville’s Newest Newlyweds, Share Their Engagement Story

Friday, July 12, 2013

Congratulations to Terry and Kellee who were married last weekend!  Their modern-vintage wedding was hosted at Mint Springs Farm.  Before their big day, groom Terry took a few minutes to tell us about their engagement session with Roland's Photography, which took place at Shelby Pedestrian Bridge and Cumberland Park.

Tell me about your first date.

We could never decide on what actually counted as our first date, because every time we went to dinner or lunch she insisted it was not a date...but I kept asking and she kept going!

When did you know that Kellee was the one?

While on vacation in Bermuda, somewhere from the beginning of the trip 'til the end of the trip, we just knew!

How did you "pop the question"?

I sent her a text message with the picture of the ring!

What were the most special moments during your engagement period?

The moment she said yes! And of course when we got the approval of her 4 year old son!

How was your engagement session experience with Roland's Photography?

We had a great time at the session. Once we got started we just had fun with it and let Roland worked his magic! We really didn't know what to expect so we were willing to try whatever he came up with.

Who chose the attire?

Kellee orchestrated the look. She wanted us to have some modern casual with an old school feel and something a little more dressy with a vintage cool look!

What is your favorite engagement photo?

We love the picture of me kissing Kellee's neck while she looks toward the sky. We actually chose that photo for the back cover of our guest book.

(Roland adds: My favorite would be the one of Terry hanging off the train and reaching out to Kellee and them laughing. I always enjoy couples who are willing to just have fun during the session. Not taking it so serious!)

What did you most enjoy about the photo session?

We just enjoyed spending the day in the park together. It was almost like Roland wasn't even there at times!

Not only did the couple enjoy their engagement session, their photography added, "they have a natural chemistry. They just had fun and enjoyed being together. Engagement shoots usually take hours to come together where with these guys it only took us an hour. I didn't have to do a lot of posing; the shots just came together on there own! They made my job easy!"

And to the beautiful couple, here's to a relaxing honeymoon and a happy marriage.

Proposal Planners Help Nashville Boyfriend Propose with a Sweet Picnic in the Park

Monday, June 10, 2013

Did you see Andrew propose to Dana on News Channel 5 last week?  If you missed the news story, you can see proposal video here.  It was a simple but very sweet proposal, just like Andrew wanted.  The proposal was perfectly planned, videoed and photographed with the help of Regalo Design's proposal planning service.

Regalo Design learns boyfriend needs help

Regalo Design has planned dozens of proposals.  Most grooms find Regalo Design's proposal planning service by searching the internet for proposal ideas.  But Andrew's experience was different.  His girlfriend Dana saw a Regalo post on Facebook in which they asked if any grooms needed help popping the question.  She knew Andrew would appreciate help popping the question and connected Regalo Design to Andrew.

They meet the boyfriend

Andrew met with Damon and Sarah, owners of Regalo Design and shared some of his proposal ideas.  The planners wanted to get to know Andrew and Dana, learn about their dates, their likes individually and collectively.  They learned that Andrew initially wanted to propose using a Jumbotron at a Predators or Titans game.  Not only was this not logistically feasible due to the team's schedules, Damon also knew, based on his research, that most women werent in love with the idea of the Jumbotron proposal.

They brainstorm, agree on perfect proposal idea

Damon recommended another approach.  "Let's make sure this is your moment to shine but be sure that it's all about her."  With that in mind, the planners continued to brainstorm with Andrew until they landed on a significant date, their second, a picnic at Pinkerton Park in Frankin, TN.  This event resonated with Andrew.  Yes - some grooms will opt for something more lavish, others more edgy but this approach felt right.

Would a recreated picnic evoke an instant memory for Dana of their history and love?  Would it be the kind of moment she would appreciate? Yes!

They coordinate and set up the proposal

After Andrew decided that a picnic would be a perfect way to propose, he let Regalo Design do their magic.  After all, they are event planners.  This would be no ordinary picnic.  Aside from a romantic design, Regalo Design reached out to a Cardboard Films and Scoobie's Photographic Images to ensure that every moment would be videoed and photographed, preserved for the couple forever.

All Andrew had to do was show up, with the ring and Dana of course.  Upon arrival, the picnic was set-up and the filming crew were well hid.  Andrew proposed, Dana said yes!

Stuart and Nicole’s Adorable, Franklin Farm Engagement Session with Nyk and Cali Wedding Photography

Tuesday, May 28, 2013

For their engagement photo session, engaged couple Stuart and Nicole chose Nyk and Cali Wedding Photographers for their photography and Southall Eden Farm in Franklin, TN for their engagement session location.

Southall Eden is a venue that I have loved since its inception and owner, Shannon, ensures the venue is always a picture perfect space.  I have seen many weddings at the Southall Eden but very few engagement photos so I was happy to pull a few of my favorite photos from the Nyk and Cali Wedding Photography blog.

For a few more photos of the couple's engagement session, visit this link to the Nyk and Cali Wedding Photography blog.

Nashville Engagement Photography Week!  Playful Fun at Fire Station + A Romantic Frolic in the Park

Friday, February 8, 2013

Last but not least, I'm leaving you with engagement photos captured by The Collection.  Ironically, it was the fire station session below that inspired my week long feature on engagement photos.

I do hope that this week has given you reason to consider an engagement session, given you ideas for your own and a taste of the different perspectives Nashville photographers offer.  Have a great weekend!

Nikki and Kevin

Engagement Session Locations: Nashville Fire Department (Station 19), Bobby's Dariy Dip

Photography: Sarah of The Collection Photography, nashvillephotographycollection.com

After seeing Nikki and Kevin's session, it was my wish that all Nashville brides would consider an e-pic session.  Your bridal portraits will be about you and your gown.  Your wedding day will be about you all dressed up, usually formally when you have a million other things on your mind.  But, your engagement session is about the two of you - doing what you love, whatever that might be.

Nikii and Kevin selected a few spots of meaning to them and invited Sarah along to photograph them.  Their photos are bright and happy and will make great wall art and facebook posts!  I don't know them but their photos make me smile, as should yours.
