What makes your venue so unique? On what do you pride yourself?
Built 1883, the Cannery was originally a flour mill and later a place to grind coffee. The building earned it's name when the Dale Food company bought it in 1957 and began processing food (jams, jellies, mustard, mayonnaise, peanut butter, etc.) eventually opening a restaurant called "The Cannery" in the early 1970s. The building housed a country music theatre in the late 70s and evolved into one of Nashville's primary music venues in the 80s and early 90s. Jimmy Cliff, Janes Addicition, Iggy Pop, Lenny Kravitz, Midnight Oil, Greg Allman, Robin Trower among others touring acts of the time played the Cannery.

New Nashville Wedding and Event Venue - S.P.A.C.E.S

Friday, April 23, 2010

What was once a shopping center in the heart of Belle Meade has now become a fantastic event space.  The retail shops that used to inhabit S.P.A.C.E.S. seemed to have set the perfect area for a modern, almost industrial venue, bringing an "L.A. chic" option to the Nashville wedding scene.

They recently had an open house which Jennifer Neal Edwards of Reveal Event Style invited us to as her plus one.  We were attending a wonderful tasting at Chef's Market that night and couldnt attend.  But Jen did!  And, she shared the following recap and pictures to share with you!

"Dutifully named "SPACES", it is an architectural, artful treat that boasts modern art forms - very metropolitan and edgy.  The venue has a natural flow mingled with floating art crafted walls creating an exciting anticipation of what is around the corner! The organizers created a warm, welcoming environment infused with lighting provided by Colin (Tech Works Sound & Lighting). The textured linens (provided by Connie Duglin) were made of wonderful, crinkle taffeta in a color and texture reminiscent of rushing water. These flanked the feature art installation, a modern interpretation of a riverbed mirage.

I can just see an intimate wedding ceremony in the round!  Ilex provided a lovely floating orchid candlescape. The table top florals were Asian inspired bamboo sculptures juxtaposed with tropical blooms and foliage. Each space within SPACES was dictated by lighting in hot colors including turquoise, hot pink and orange.

A floor inset of river stones with sleek silver orbs and iron tree silhouettes hosting a melange of earth tone glass and candle glow provided by the ever fabulous FABU (fabu.com). Absolutely stunning!

The culinary offerings at the grand opening were indicative of the atmosphere and what you can expect when you celebrate your special occasion at SPACES.  The presentation was brilliant thanks to Kristen Winston Catering (kristenwinstoncatering.com).  One eye-catching detail was the rockerfeller oysters on a half shell served on "shards" of plexiglass mimicking a bed of ice!  Dessert Designs (dessertdesignsbyleland.com) provided pastry art cupcakes topped with pearlized sugar flowers.  Glasses of wine and champagne clinked about as big band sounds filled the venue and enveloped the guest as they enjoyed every aspect and detail of this most wonderful new venue!" -- Jennifer

From the sounds of things, S.P.A.C.E.S. is going to be a wonderful venue that can suit all sorts of wedding styles from the simple, zen-inspired styles to over-the-top, spectactular tablescapes and decor.

I love the taller chiavari chairs - certainly beats standing all night!

Nashville wedding venue SPACES

It's all in the details - The simplicity of the bamboo and orchids don't take attention away from the food.  Those pillows on the banquette are nicely complemented by the neon lights.

So pretty how the candlelight bounces off the orbs.  Really gives it a magical feel without trying too hard.

Thanks again to Jennifer for a great recap of the evening.  Hopefully we get to attend an event there soon.  Until then, I'm really looking forward to seeing more pictures of events at S.P.A.C.E.S.

Cedarwood Designer Weddings: All Inclusive Venue that’s Bride & Pet Friendly!

Monday, March 22, 2010

Last month, I was invited to check out Cedarwood, a historic home in Northwest Nashville.  I'll be honest - for years, I've confused Cedarwood and Cedarvine (the now auctioned venue) because I simply didnt have a point of reference.  My visit to Cedarwood changed all of that!

What I noticed immediately was Linda - the gracious and soft spoken event manager.  She welcomed me, introduced me to her siblings, who co-own and operate Cedarwood and together - provide everything a bride needs.  This is a full production team - which I hadnt expected.  While their site said "designer, all inclusive weddings" I wasnt quite sure what it would entail.  I now know. This family - all experts in their own right - purchased the home 4 years ago and made it something marvelous.  The sister - Karen Wright (you've probably heard of her if you've followed top Nashville's floral design players) - Linda - has a background in event management and the brothers - not sure their specialty but they probably do the heavy lifting to keep the grounds maginificient.

I had a tour of the wedding venue and even in the dead of winter - it was still a sight to behold.  From the barn to the enormous backyard to the the creek - I could just envision all of the wonderful family and friends gathered to celebrate an intimate evening.

barn wedding cedarwood tennessee

I gathered a lot of great info on Cedarwood.  Two main things you should know: 1) Cedarwood is a full service venue and they do it all WELL, especially the custom design and decor.  Most brides just bring their photographer, guests and Cedarwood does everything else - how's that for an easy button!  2) Cedarwood offers full wedding packages that range from $16,950 for 150 guests - (even includes your bouquets/boutonnieres!) to $26,325 for luxury everything.  If you are like me aka a hotel bride that wants everything neatly packaged so I dont have to do too much and coordinate a lot, then this could be a strong contender.  And, you will find that the starting package includes just about everything the average bride would need, making it a wonderful "just show up" option.

What's also unique is that Cedarwood is a favorite place for many celebrity weddings - because it's tucked away off the beaten path, cozy and intimate AND it's pet friendly.  The owners pet's freely roam the venue and they invite their guests pets too.  It's the ultimate celebration nature - eco friendly and pet friendly too.

They encourage you to make the event your own - one couple brought a sentimental, vintage bed to add to the ambiance and guests took pictures - the staff will often decorate the tables with unique antiques (if on theme) to add character throughout.

Here are more details.  Check out their stunning blog for more amazing Nashville weddings.

Nashville Wedding Venue Spotlight: Events@1418 for City Chic Brides

Friday, March 5, 2010

Tucked away amongst the industrial structures on Church Street is a jewel of a building in which couples have shared and celebrated their firsts as Mr. & Mrs.  I still remember driving by there a few years ago and seeing their sign and thinking, "I'll bet that's a really cool space for an event."  I wasn't too far off the mark - Events@1418 is an excellent event space, complete with a rooftop with spectacular views of downtown Nashville.  I'm still trying to think of a reason to have a party there!

We asked Kellie Bryson, owner of Events@1418 to tell us a little more about the space!

Our Spotlight on Events @ 1418

We have price points to assist all brides. Being a smaller venue can allow someone with a more modest budget go a little more over the top because the guest count is naturally less. What do you pride yourself on? Our space is very non-traditional in appearance – with the original flooring and brickwork. – we also have a roof top deck that is always quite popular for guests to visit and see the skyline of Nashville. We love and embrace weddings by choice – we have always done weddings with our off-premise catering division so it was a natural progression to have onsite receptions and even ceremonies.

Meet FrontPorch Farms, a Quintessential Southern Wedding Venue

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

A few weeks ago, I received a call from Kathy of FrontPorch Farms.  She told me all about her farm and directed me to their website.  That's when I fell in love with the charming, southern wedding venue!

Kathy told me on the phone that not only is the venue available to Nashville brides for their ceremony and reception but because the home can be rented in its entirety, it makes a good option for overnight guests.

There are many perks of this venue so you should check out my interview with Kathy below and give her a call to discuss your wedding or event!

Believe me - this will be a hot spot.  It's affordable and has lots to offer if you're looking for true southern charm.

Drive: 40 minutes from downtown Nashville

Established in 2009, Front Porch Farms is one of Nashville’s Best new wedding and reception venues built to reflect the era and unforgettable charm of the Old South.  As a labor of love between a hopeless romantic from Georgia and one of Nashville’s modern day heroes with old fashioned values, the three story antebellum-style house with multiple covered porches overlooks magnificent views of the countryside.  The 32-acres of rolling green pasture also includes a guesthouse, pool, pond, gazebos, rustic barn and rolling green pastures while located only minutes from the city.  Overnight accommodations are available so guests can fully experience the romance of the country while enjoying modern day luxuries.

FrontPorch Farms Motto:  A healthy marriage takes hard work and dedication but there is one day that shouldn’t be hard and that’s the very first day of your lifetime together.  We created FrontPorch Farms as our romantic escape and now we share it with others to find their own magic & memories to last that lifetime.

FrontPorch Farms has on-site catering and a prefered list of vendors but you can also bring in a caterer if you so choose.  They also have an on-site event coordinator and four staff members to help with your wedding event needs from the parties and showers to the ceremony and reception.  The main room fits up to 75 guests for an intimate ceremony, and the space can accomodate up to 250 people.  We had a few more questions for them, here's what they wanted to share -

The pool at Front Porch Farms

What else should brides know about your venue?

Brides should feel confident in knowing that they are getting our undivided attention and that we are not going to rush them in and out to make room for the next couple. We enjoy opening our home and property up to couples who are in love and want to share their joy with others.  Daisy, my 84 year old grandmother married my grandfather Jimmy when she was 18.  For 54 years until he passed away, they were by each other’s side – even if they were mad, sad or off on some crazy adventure. He carried her purse in stores because she always left it and no matter what scheme one of them cooked up, the other would follow along. FrontPorch Farms was the beginning of a love like that between my husband and I. We want to be the beginning of other loves like that. Let’s grow more “Daisies” together!

What makes your venue so unique? What do you pride yourself on?

I have been in the music industry for numerous years and know how events should run smoothly and efficiently and I am experienced in handling just about any crisis thrown at me. My husband is a third generation fire fighter who can do the same.  If it’s something we don’t know how to do, you can bet we know someone who does.  I applaud originality and creativity and welcome couples who have a vision that isn’t the same ol’ same ol’.

What special packages do you offer?

Our basic package includes a free 40x100 tent, tables, and chairs in our bookings. We can include linens and all other wedding and reception needs if requested.
