All That Glitters - Cedarwood’s Burlap & Bling Wedding Inspiration
Wednesday, June 15, 2011
The word "bling" conjures images of rap stars with huge chains, girls covered in gold lamé and six inch heels. Well, it does for me anyway! But leave it to Cedarwood (a historic wedding venue) to turn a word prevalent in pop culture into something truly glamorous, glittery, and fantastic, without crossing the line into tacky. During one of their recent open houses, they showcased tons of different styles but none caught my eye more so than their Burlap & Bling design inspiration.

This design is SO pretty and I would love to see it done full-scale in a wedding (any takers?). It was so simple really, they used the white exterior wall as a backdrop and used old picture frames and mirrors, creating nothing short of opulence using only color and texture. There were no over-the-top metalics, just well-placed pieces of antique looking baubles and ornaments that stood out against the more raw, rough-hewn burlap details that really brought to life the white candles and flowers.
Burlap & Bling is primarily making use of props with a small proportion using florals which is great if your budget doesn't allow for a ton of fresh flowers. Baby's breath, the little white flowers that make up the table arrangement, are extremely affordable. A flower that typically goes unused, it fits in perfectly with the similarly simple and underestimated plain, white-washed candlesticks and pillar candles. This is for a bride who wants a powerful punch with their decor without using loud colors or showy decorations.
Paper goods and details were custom made to match thanks to Designs in Paper!

As the sun set and the candles were lit, Burlap and Bling took on an even cozier, glowing feel. The beautiful cake also emerged once the sun wasn't beating down on the table.
