Bride Hires Signature Cakes by Vicki to Create a Cake to Honor Navy, Don’t Tread on Me

How does a bride honor her heritage and incorporate what she values into her wedding? She turns to a cake pro who is creative and willing to design custom cakes.
When Rose met with Nashville's Signature Cakes by Vicki, she shared a few themes that inspired her War Memorial wedding: romance, elegance, flair and Navy? Not only did Vicki create a design that Rose loved, she also created a groom's cake for fiance David that was better than imagined.
When I reached out to Rose to learn more about her cake design, she said, "Vicki is awesome! I showed her several random pics and described what I wanted and within minutes she sketched my dream cake. She even caught the little detail of the anchor with our names which we used throughout our whole wedding (invitations, dance floor, table numbers, etc). Not to mentioned the cake was delicious!!"
Here's Rose's cake story:
What was the vision for your wedding?
My vision for our wedding was romance, elegance, and classic while incorporating the Navy. I really love pink but with the Navy being such a big part of our lives, I wanted to honor it. So I incorporated the anchor and the navy colors (gold and navy) with a pale pink in everything I could.
How did you find Signature Cakes by Vicki?
My wedding planner, Kristin Kaplan, recommend Vicki after seeing the kind of pictures of cakes I liked. The pictures of cakes I showed her where I guess what you could call "over the top." She recommended Vicki due to her amazing abilities to make elegant, beautiful, and delicious cakes.
What inspired your cake?
Pinterest of course helped but mostly my wedding theme!
How did you approach the design for your wedding cake? Did you take pictures to Signature Cakes by Vicki did you meet with her and answer questions about your dress, etc?
I met with Vicki and showed her pictures of several different kind of cakes I liked. The pictures were all over the place as far as designs go thanks to Pinterest and my obsession with weddings. I also described other aspects of the wedding I had already picked out such as invitation design, flowers, and my wedding dress. Vicki was able to listen to my randomness and sketch within minutes my dream wedding cake tailored to me. She really listened to the things I pinpointed as my favorite in each picture and ran with it.
David was deployed during the wedding planning process but I knew he wanted to incorporate the "Don't Tread on Me" flag for his groom's cake. Vicki loved the idea and started making awesome suggestions like the sheet cake being the flag and having the snake on top of the cake. David was super impressed with his cake! I even saw the other Navy officers taking pictures of it the night of our wedding. Needless to say, they appreciated the cake!
What did you want most from your cake? great design, taste? specific details?
I really wanted a beautifully designed cake. Pictures last a life time so I wanted a cake that I could look back on down the road and say, "Yeah, I had an amazing cake". The fact it tasted amazing too was a plus! I got my cake and got to eat it too!
What surprised you about the experience of designing your cake?
How easy it was! I had a 1 hour meeting where I tasted several different flavors of cakes, showed pictures, and discussed my interests. It was super easy and I walked away knowing I had nothing to worry about. That peace of mind is priceless to a bride!
What were your cake flavors? Did you have them custom designed or were they standard?
Vicki offers so many different delicious flavors to begin with that there was no reason to worry about custom flavors! I taste tried probably 10 or so different flavors at the time of the tasting. I couldn't decide on just 1 or 2 flavors so we had 4- white chocolate, almond, strawberry, and chocolate.
What did you like most about your cake?
I loved the gold embellishments around the cake! It was so stunning and so different from your traditional wedding cakes. It was so pretty I didn't want to cut it!
