Number of years in the business:
Fabu Event & Wedding Décor has been in business for 9 years; but the owner, Sarah Boyce, has a few decades under her belt.

How did you get started in weddings?
It was an easy transition from full-service event planning. I’ve been friends with various Music Row luminaries, so when it came time for their children to get married, I realized that specialty décor items were not locally available in Nashville. I began purchasing items for those clients because I wanted to make them available to other brides.
What do you like most about weddings?
You get to be creative; and in the end, you get to see all of your hard work and time come together beautifully. A wedding is probably the most important day of a girls life – being a part of that process and fulfilling what she always envisioned is incomparable.
What is your favorite wedding pic and why?
In 2009, we were honored to be a part of this amazing wedding with Angela Proffitt of Elegant Weddings. It was a Bollywood-inspired wedding at Belle Meade Plantation. Dove Photography did an amazing job capturing the details of our Moroccan décor in this photo.

You can create any theme with Fabu's rentals - from exotic to romantic. Your wedding can be global or classic.
What is your service philosophy?
Our goal is to make available the very best quality and design, with affordable prices and unbeatable customer service. .
We love the definition in the urban dictionary:
fab·u· (‘fa·‘bü) adj. – A thing or a place so over the top fabulous that it is very cool.

What are your strengths compared to others in your category? Why should a bride hire you?
This is a niche business. We are different and have a different design aesthetic and products than our competitors. For the bride that is searching for a unique selection of rare specialty décor for her wedding, then look no further – we are “the icing on the cake.”
Who are your 5 favorite Nashville wedding vendors – helpfulness, professionalism, style?
1. Angela Proffitt of Elegant Weddings by Angela – she is the most amazing wedding planner to work with. Her attention to detail and coordination is top notch, and the end result of all her work is absolutely stunning.
2. Deanna Bruton of Aerial – This rooftop event space has the best view in all of downtown Nashville, and is consistently booked weekend after weekend. We’ve worked closely with Deanna for the past 2 years, and it’s been a blast. She is 100% involved in the planning process, and goes above and beyond for each client.
3. Caprice Palmer of The Enchanted Florist – She has been an absolute delight to work with on every single event. Caprice has this ability to transform our fixtures into a beautiful and amazing floral work of art.
4. A Village of Flowers – What a talented crew of floral designers! The professionalism and creativity that come from Melissa and her crew, never ceases to amaze us.
5. Johnny Haffner of Capers Catering – For the bride that is searching for delicious food with a gorgeous presentation, Johnny is the man. His ability to create these gourmet dishes, oh so strategically placed on beautiful service ware, is unlike any other!
What do you read/watch regularly to stay on top of wedding/event trends?
Of course we enjoy flipping through Southern Weddings Magazine, Platinum Weddings and The Knot.com. Ashleysbrideguide.com has also been an excellent site to keep us informed on the happenings. But one of the best resources are our brides/vendors. We get calls all the time from brides who are looking for something specific – maybe something we don’t have, but we will make it happen.

Let’s discuss current wedding trends:
This time of year, we’re working on several “winter wonderland” weddings and holiday parties. We like to “bring out the bling” to add that extra glitz and sparkle. Our 10ft trees draped in crystal garland, hanging votives and Manzanita trees are hugely popular right now.

Old Hollywood Glam is back and bigger than ever! Large white ostrich plumes in an LED Eifel vase give nostalgia to the roaring ‘20s. The use of vibrant peacock feathers is also popping up in tabletop centerpieces and floral bouquets.
A return to traditional romance using shabby-chic décor is “in” for spring/summer weddings. We have a wide selection of antique candelabras, mercury glass and white-wash furniture that look beautiful for an outdoor garden wedding.
What trend do you love?
We really like the whole “going green” eco-chic trend right now. It’s all about creativity and personalized glamour. Choosing recycled paper invitations, organic flowers, and holding the wedding and reception in the same place is not only ecologically conscious, but also cost-effective.
A lot of brides are opting for cupcakes instead of a tiered wedding cake. The display of lots of mini cupcakes on an elaborate tower is too cute! I’m also seeing a lot of candy buffets/confection bars at the reception. These setups are so fun and colorful in all the various sized glass jars.

What trend do you hate?
Anything that has to do with tulle. For aisles, draping, and chair covering, I think a soft, sheer chiffon is much more elegant and beautiful.
Past Trends
Trend I’m glad is gone:
Elaborate wedding cakes, incorporating figurines of everyone in the bridal party, fountains, stairs and bridges. It’s over-the-top and it’s so 1980s.

Trend I’m sad is gone:
I think people often forget what the true meaning behind a marriage is; they get swept up in the “showiness” of the actual wedding, how big it can be, the food, the cake, the dress, etc. Although I love how Fabu is a place where we “think outside the box” and have very unusual décor, I kind of miss the traditional wedding. Brides these days seem to be stepping away from tradition and leaning more towards a contemporary execution.

What are your favorite wedding website?
Obviously, ashleysbrideguide.com is our first choice – it’s a great site, packed full of everything a Nashville bride needs to know! We also check out weddingchannel.com and marthastewartweddings.com from time to time.
Does your company do anything special that a green bride might want to know?
At Fabu, all of our décor items are for rent – so there’s no need to exceed your wedding budget on purchasing things you’ll only use once. Since we go through hundreds of candles every year, we are pleased to offer “recycled” candles. These candles have been lit before, but are still in presentable, working condition. They are far less expensive than purchasing new candles, and it’s a more eco-friendly alternative.
Where can we find you if you’re not working with a bride?
Not only is Fabu an event and wedding décor rental company, but it’s also a groovy little retail boutique. It is like a treasure trove of jewelry, accessories, clothing, and home décor. It’s conveniently located across the street from our rental showroom, and is a must see for anyone looking for that unique gift that you will not find anywhere else. http://www.shopfabu.com
