Enchanted Florist Tells Us What’s Hot For Nashville’s Summer Weddings

Wednesday, July 27, 2011

If you are having a summer wedding, the temperatures won't be the only things getting your guests in a tizzy! Wow them with some gorgeous floral design because it's summer and there isn't as shortage of beautiful flowers for your bouquets and centerpieces. I spoke to Caprice of Enchanted Florist and asked her what we can look forward to for the rest of the season and for 2012 summer weddings.

Q: What flowers are available in the summer here in Nashville?

In the summer you can get almost anything, which is good to know. Flowers that are easy to get are hydrangeas (pictured above), delphinium, sunflowers, gerbers, lilies and roses. The demand for hydrangeas is going up and it's starting to go up a little bit in price, but it's definitely a summer flower and can be gotten anytime.

Q: How then can brides not break the budget with hydrangeas if they're starting to increase in cost but that's the flower they really want?

Hydrangeas are just one big flower. Because they're so big it doesn't take very many of them. It could take four or five roses to be as big as one hydrangea, in the interest of space used. If you really like hydrangeas and it's important to you, use it where it counts and use alternatives for where it doesn't matter as much.

Q: What do you think we're going to see this summer with brides' tastes and floral trends?

Summer brides run the gamut - some want the vintage, soft peony, garden rose, stalks of snapdragon kind of look and some want classic summer looks - vibrant hot pinks, bright yellows, blues and reds, things that are vibrant and happy. Sunflowers, gerbers, delphinium, iris and things of that nature. It all comes to their personal preference.

Q: Why do you think you are still seeing a lot of the vintage weddings?

Even though we, as industry professionals, have seen it for a while, new brides have just started looking so it's new to them. E.g. mason jars, someone who just got engaged in June wants to have a country wedding, they think they're the cutest thing and it's new to them and it's still a very strong trend. Another trend is the outdoor garden, barn, country wedding where they pick the rustic venues and do a very vintage, soft romantic look.

Blogging is something I’ve enjoyed doing for years. My interests lie mostly in lifestyle related topics like fashion, style, design, food and weddings. When I heard Ashley was looking to bring on new members to the ABG team, I jumped at the opportunity - I can’t think of a better way to stay involved in weddings than to write about them and to stay in touch with the trends and new ideas. Lucky for me, Ashley likes my blog and trusts my experience to bring me on and so far, it’s been a blast.
