Delicious Wedding Food and Finds from Nashville Food Festivals, YumEast and Nashville Hot Chicken

Wednesday, July 10, 2013

My friends at Kernels Gourmet Popcorn invited me to be their guest at East Nashville's YumEast festival.  The event was all about sampling delightful food from East Nashville restaurants and shops.  I hoped that I'd discover new treats that Nashville brides would appreciate and I did!

Kernels Gourmet Popcorn wasn't a new find because it's owned by family friends.  But, if you haven't had their Chicago-style popcorn, you should.  My personal favorite was their chocolate drizzle popcorn but their spicy is also a favorite.  Their store is located on Gallatin Road near the Nashville Auto Diesel College.  They can create a popcorn bar or provide scrumptious wedding favors for your guests.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream is all over the food scene and for good reason.  Their ice cream is rich and delicious!  They have a food cart and truck and I'm sure they have some great options for serving their cool treat at Nashville weddings.

Yeast Nashville is bringing kolaches to East Nashville.  Kolaches?? I'd never had them before trying them at the Yeast Nashville booth but now, I'm all about them.  These cute and tasty treats are slightly sweetener than muffins but not as sweet as a cupcake - which is a perfect place to be.  As soon as I saw and tasted them I thought - wedding desserts or favors!

Lockeland Table is a community kitchen and bar.  At the festival, they served a fruity cocktail that was a crowd pleaser and was just the trick to draw a crowd to their booth.  While I sipped this fun adult beverage, I chatted with Tracey who told me all about this new East Nashville restaurant that promises a farm to table experience.  Their community kitchen is large enough for intimate bridal events, such as engagement and rehearsal dinners or bridal showers.

Speaking of food festivals, on July 4th, I attended the Nashville Hot Chicken Festival where I reluctantly tried Retro Sno.  Why was a reluctant? Because I've tried many snow cones and while good, they are all the same.  Right?  Not Retro Sno.  I'm TOTally in L-O-V-E with Retro Sno.  I had their dreamsicle, which is an orange snow made with high quality ingredients (savory but not too sweet). It was stuffed with vanilla ice cream and topped with whipped cream.  Are you kidding me????

It's been days since I tasted the snow cone but the experience was unforgettable.  I've told my friends and family that they have to try it and I've been checking their website ad naseum to find out where I can taste them next.  Please book them their food truck for your summer wedding and invite me!
