A High Energy Wedding at Houston Station Includes a Flash Mob, Fireworks, Live Music, Exquisite Food

Friday, July 20, 2012

Earlier this year we shared why brides love Houston Station. Today we'll get a closer look at a fantastic wedding reception that took place there. I'm not sure what I adore more about this wedding - the fun-loving bride and groom and their guests or the awesome decor and wedding design and their use of space in the empty room. Houston Station really was transformed into a wedding wonderland!

Enjoy!

My Wedding Details

How would you describe your style as a couple?

We both love music, dancing and entertainment! The more over the top the better! Our style is high energy with a focus on having fun!

How did you incorporate that style into your wedding?

We wanted our wedding and reception to be a huge party where everyone was having fun. During each phase of our wedding day we incorporated surprises, music, and fun. We rented a plush limo bus for the wedding party with videos during the pictures before the wedding. We had three different live music performances during the wedding. The reception kicked off with a jazz band playing hip hop music with traditional instruments. The wedding party participated in a flash mob and the guests danced the night away. Kyle has always performed an elaborate fireworks event on the 4th of July so we exited to a fireworks show!

What was the favorite aspect of your wedding?

Having all of our friends and family from across the country in one place celebrating together! We had a private time - Kyle kept saying throughout the day that we needed to enjoy every minute of our time together. Our favorite private time was going to see the reception space before the guests entered the room. The venue looked amazing and we had time to experience each detail including our cakes, table decor, and dance floor set up. It looked like a clip from a fairy tale.

Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?

My Grandmother and I have always been shopping partners and for my wedding she gave me the dress. It was a definite splurge, but the rustic glam style perfectly complemented our event. I felt beautiful!

DIY: we saved by printing our programs, creating gift baskets for out of town guests, and buying our own alcohol. Another big savings was getting Angela Proffitt as our wedding planner. She is absolutely amazing and helped us find the best vendors at reasonable prices! You can't put a price on having everything taken care of the day of your wedding. I truly was able to fully enjoy the experience since Angela took care of everything.

Now that the wedding day is over, is there anything about your planning process you feel you could have done differently?

I would have included a gift for guests as a surprise when valet brought their cars at the end of the night. Also, I would have made sure the bus driver could be extended past 1:00am or ensured we could have two drivers. We ended the night early in downtown Nashville since the bus driver had already completed his maximum allowable shift. Finally, we would have gotten bongo players to drum with the DJ and incorporate another interactive element during the reception.

In one sentence, what words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?

Do it together! The planning process brought us even closer together and made the event "ours."

Blogging is something I’ve enjoyed doing for years. My interests lie mostly in lifestyle related topics like fashion, style, design, food and weddings. When I heard Ashley was looking to bring on new members to the ABG team, I jumped at the opportunity - I can’t think of a better way to stay involved in weddings than to write about them and to stay in touch with the trends and new ideas. Lucky for me, Ashley likes my blog and trusts my experience to bring me on and so far, it’s been a blast.
