Wedding Details

How would you describe your style as a couple?
We love neutral colors and clean lines.  We love modern style, but not over-the-top modern.

Where did you get your inspiration (for decor, style, colors, etc.)?
The colors were basically black and white, which is what I love to wear and decorate with.  I wanted a clean, white ceremony and a romantic reception.  We did not have many flowers, but the calla lilies popped in the photos, it was perfect!

How did you incorporate that style into your wedding?
As my mother would call it, “lots of clean lines.”  We used lots of white outside with drapery for the ceremony and lots of black inside.  The city setting fit our style!

What was your (or your guests’) favorite aspect of your wedding?
Our guests loved that Will’s grandfather was the officiant.  They also loved the location.

Where did you splurge?  Where did you save/DIY?
We splurged on location, photography, videography.  All things everyone would remember!  We saved on food: Loveless was amazing and reasonable.

Who were your favorite vendors and what made them exceptional?
I think all of our vendors were great!  Once we made decisions on things, it ran very smoothly.

Now that the wedding day is over, is there anything about your planning process you feel you could have done differently?
I think almost every bride could say they should not have worried so much during the planning process; it all works out!  I really loved every aspect of our wedding, and we were (for the most part) on top of the planning.  I wouldn’t change a thing!

In one sentence, what words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?
Choose a couple things you really want and be flexible on everything else.

Magali + Thomas' had a very clear vision for their Nashville wedding at Travellers Rest Plantation and with the help of Firefly Events, it was executed perfectly.  They sought a woodsy atmosphere that was also intimate.  We love that they were unafraid to mix earthly elements with modern touches, like the chandeliers: unexpected yet magical!

Wedding Details

How would you describe your style as a couple?
Simple and somewhat traditional with some flairs of fun :)

Where did you get your inspiration (for decor, style, colors, etc.)?
Im not sure, I really just wanted our wedding to have an enchanting woodsy kind of feel, and feel very intimate.

How did you incorporate that style into your wedding (e.g. décor, colors, details or even picking the venue)?
The lighting was very dim and warm during the reception with chandeliers hanging from the trees, our colors were very muted with pale peaches and green and gold. Our decor was mostly vintage themed furniture, chairs, picture frames, ladders etc..

What was your (or your guests’) favorite aspect of your wedding?
Surprisingly, although it was HOT, I think people enjoyed that it was so natural and outdoors, it felt like a secret garden party!

Where did you splurge?  Where did you save/DIY?
I think we splurged on the food and the decor. I had to convince my husband to let me get those barnwood tables but I think it was well worth it because it fit the look for the wedding so well. We saved on flowers, especially at the church.

Who were your favorite vendors and what made them exceptional?
I absolutely loved working with Beyond Details.  They customized our food completely so that we could have some of my grandmothers recipes from Ecuador. The food was delicious and unique. Samantha and Michelle from Firefly were also incredible, they made the wedding so beautiful and so stress free!

Now that the wedding day is over, is there anything about your planning process you feel you could have done differently?
My biggest regret is not having a videographer, I didnt think I would watch the video but now I wish we had one to go back and listen to the wonderful speeches and see everything “live” again.

In one sentence, what words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?
Consider each others wishes and don’t get hung up on the little things, on the day of your wedding just appreciate all your blessings!

Tres Romantique! Amy + Mitch’s Jane Eyre Themed Wedding at Nashville’s Cathedral of the Incarnation

Friday, January 8, 2016

When we ask couples what inspired their wedding, we typically hear Pinterest, a sports theme, a favorite hobby.  But today's featured Nashville couple, Amy and Mitch, started with a trip to the paint section at Lowe's.  Now that's a girl after my own heart!  I thought I was the only one who shopped paint for no reason.  And would have thought that paint trip would result in a "Jane Eyre" themed wedding?

That's the thing about weddings, they planning is such a journey and it's inspired by so many unexpected things.  For Amy and Mitch, they turned their classic style into a romantic day filled with their personal touches...and a perfect color palette.

Read all about their wedding day, especially their favorite wedding vendors.  You might find one you love too.

Wedding Details

How would you describe your style as a couple?

Our style is classic and traditional with contemporary touches. We especially love when things have meaning behind them and are one of a kind. We like a little bit of everything and our style reflects that about us.

Where did you get your inspiration?

Picking out our colors/decor was very fun and challenging for us as we really wanted to have a unique yet traditionally beautiful wedding. We started by going to Lowe's and picking out any paint swatches of colors that we liked, not with any particular theme in mind (I love color so I think we ended up picking 50 paint swatches. Haha.) We then went home, spread them all out and sorted them until we came up with our favorites and then picked what we felt went together best.

We ended up with sea glass, peach, coral, and champagne which would make for a perfectly romantic wedding! This lead us to decide on a "Jane Eyre"/Romantic Era theme for our wedding day. Some things that inspired us were flowers with special meanings behind them, unique vintage details such as my great grandmother's ring pillow used in the ceremony, and splashes of crystal mixed with raw wood elements that Mitch and I love so much.

How did you incorporate that style into your wedding?

Between my mom and I, we are SO detail oriented and don’t know how to reel ourselves in – so we incorporated our style into probably every aspect of our wedding haha. We wanted to make sure that everything coordinated really well but wasn’t corny. Our colors all flowed really well together and were everywhere such as our linens, flowers, cake, photo booth, and even having the strawberry lemonade the perfect coral/peach color to coordinate. (Did I mention we over-do everything? Haha.)

What was your (or your guests’) favorite aspect of your wedding?

I think everyone’s favorite aspect of our wedding was that it was just a really fun atmosphere. It was a giant reunion of all our family and friends from literally all over the world; combine that with amazing food and music, and it was truly the “best day ever” (as our koozie wedding favors said on them ☺).

Where did you splurge?  Where did you save/DIY?

We splurged on the food and photography.  The food was something we knew everyone would remember and I come from a big Italian family so good eats were very important to us ☺ Photography was also so important to us because it really is the one thing you have after the big day. We wanted classic pictures that would bring us right back to those special moments for years to come.

Our photo booth was an amazing DIY using the decorations from one of my bridal showers. Mitch’s family did such a beautiful job with the decorations so it was awesome to be able to reuse them! We knew we wanted a photobooth because they are so fun but can be expensive. Luckily our longtime neighbor is an amazing photographer and let us use her equipment for the day (check out Caturra Photography by Shannon Eggleston.  She is amazing! caturra.smugmug.com.)

Who were your favorite vendors and what made them exceptional?

All our vendors were honestly phenomenal and did an amazing job at making our day everything we dreamed it would be!

Signature Cakes by Vicki – That cake. It was insane. Beyond anything that we could have ever imagined.  It was truly a work of art and the most beautiful cake I have ever seen! She is so absolutely sweet, the cake tasting was so fun and she even sketched out our cake to give us an idea of what it would look like. You could tell she was really excited to work on our cake too, which made it even better! She is an extremely talented artist so we gave her a general idea of what we wanted but overall gave her creative freedom for all the flowers and final design. Everyone was absolutely blown away by the cake! Oh and it was SO DELICIOUS! I would recommend her to any and everyone!

Krista Lee Photography – Another truly talented artist.  Her photography is beautiful and she was so fun to work with, super personable, and just so sweet! She made you feel very comfortable and kept everything natural, which made for pictures we will treasure for the rest of our lives. Mitch isn’t the biggest fan of having his picture taken but Krista did such an amazing job making us feel comfortable and keeping the photos moving but not feel rushed. She knows what poses and lighting will make for great photos and is a true professional. Krista was very thorough and was so on top of everything.  It really helped calm my nerves because I knew I could count on her! Absolutely recommend her to any and everyone, too many great things to say about our experience with her.  She will be our go-to photographer for future photography needs :)

Chef’s Market – The food was absolutely amazing and delicious; it was so unique and looked like a work of art! They were so on top of everything and are truly the best in the business. They were so quick to respond, answered all of our questions in detail, and were just so professional. Harmony was so personable and took such great care of us and made sure everything was executed perfectly on our big day!

Choice DJ’s – Kevin did a great job picking fun songs throughout the night that kept our dance floor absolutely packed from literally the first song (but really – he got everyone up and dancing on the dance floor from the very first song!) He played what the crowd wanted, was super friendly and just wanted everyone to have a great time! We were very happy with him and would definitely recommend him!

Grand Central – They have everything you could ever want for an event – a true one-stop shop! They had everything from the perfect linen colors to Italian string lights and Chivari chairs. Melody and her team were all so friendly and such a pleasure to work with – they were always willing to answer questions and even mailed us swatches of our linens so we could make sure all our décor coordinated!

Branching Out Floral and Event Design – Our bouquets were so colorful and so gorgeous! All the table arrangements made you feel like you were in a garden and really helped execute the romantic garden party look we wanted. My mom helped us select flowers with special meanings from the Victorian Language of Flowers – it made everything so special and Vicki was so helpful in making sure we could have all these specific flowers.

Parlour3 Beauty Bus – An amazing experience that really made all of my bridesmaids feel beautiful and take any stress of the day away (this was my treat to them because I wanted everyone to feel pampered and special since they are my closest friends who are so amazing and came from all over the USA to be by my side on one of the most important days of my life! Love you girls!!) Seriously though this was the coolest concept ever – having your hair and makeup brought to you in a celebrity style makeup trailer?! Perfect for the one day you really want to feel like a princess ☺

Arzelles – The best bridal shop in Nashville!! Kimya is SO sweet and made you feel so welcome and special, they have the most beautiful and current bridal styles! Highly recommend making an appointment there ☺

Now that the wedding day is over, is there anything about your planning process you feel you could have done differently?

I think I could have not stressed out so much over little details and just trusted that it would all be ok. Overall though I would not change a thing – our day turned out perfect and the creative planning process was such a fun time with my mom and I will always treasure that time together. Mitch and I really kept ourselves focused on the ceremony and the reasons why we were getting married which really made the whole day even more special.

In one sentence, what words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?

Keep each other laughing and don't forget to go on dates!

How would you describe your style as a couple?

We are very relaxed and neutral.  We love natural and warm colors and tend to stay away from bright and loud features.

Where did you get your inspiration?

We loved the loose flower arrangements with the neutral tones and wild greenery.  A lot of inspiration came from our planner Emily Herron.  We had a general idea of colors and the overall warm feeling, and she was able to make that a reality.

How did you incorporate that style into your wedding?

We wanted a venue that is close to the center of Nashville.  We had a lot of out-of-town guests, and we wanted them to experience Nashville, even at a wedding.  The colors correlated with the interior brick and urban feel, giving a warm and welcoming feeling.

What was your (or your guests’) favorite aspect of your wedding?

The food was a hit as well as the band, there wasn’t a single person sitting once the band began.

Where did you splurge?

I believe we splurged on the band; we spent a good amount of time researching different bands.  We wanted to make sure they were versatile and could play modern and classic.

Where did you save/DIY?

We ended up renting most items to keep from having more to clean up at the end of the night.  My favorite DIY item was the cake topper.

Who were your favorite vendors and what made them exceptional?

The Malemen Show Band.  They had so much energy and played nonstop.

Chef Christopher.  Our guests are still raving about the food!

Now that the wedding day is over, is there anything about your planning process you feel you could have done differently?

I think it went smoothly.  If anything messed up, we were having such a great time that we did not notice.

In one sentence, what words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?

Take a moment and breathe.  The day of your wedding is so fast and the things that you were so worried about at one point you will not notice when the time comes.  Get a great band; that was the key to our success because live bands get the crowd going.  Everyone was laughing and dancing all night.

How would you describe your style as a couple?
Simple, fun; a mix of vintage and modern

Where did you get your inspiration?
Definitely Pinterest, but also from the Bridge Building itself.  Once we picked that as our venue, we were better able to get a feel for what we wanted our wedding to be.  I would also say we took inspiration from our lives in general - me spending my entire life living just outside Nashville, Hunter being in law school, our favorite music, etc.

How did you incorporate that style into your wedding?
Choosing the Bridge Building made us really want to sort of “show off” downtown Nashville, so our décor was really simple -  nothing taking away from that amazing view of the Nashville skyline!  I also think that by keeping the décor simple, we kept the focus on the fun.  We just wanted it to feel happy and sweet, not over the top or extravagant.

We incorporated our mix of vintage and modern by going with a very modern venue, but featuring vintage touches like old doilies from the flea market and very old law books (also a nod to Hunter’s life being just a tiny bit consumed by law school right now!).  Other than that, we kept it fun with little details like music from our favorite band, the Avett Brothers, as pre-ceremony music, flowery fans for our guests featuring a quote from one of their songs, and wedding favor CDs with some of our favorite songs as a couple!

What was your (or your guests’) favorite aspect of your wedding?
Just how fun it was from start to finish!  We had so many guests tell us how much fun they had, and we couldn’t agree more!  The reception was just a big, happy party and that’s all we really wanted!  Our ceremony was fun as well, with our choice of fun Avett Brothers songs as pre-ceremony music and funny stories and laughter incorporated into the brief, simple ceremony.  When we think about our wedding or look through the pictures, the joy and fun is what stands out the most to us, and that means more to us than any other aspect of our day!

Where did you splurge?  Where did you save/DIY?
Our biggest splurge was definitely the venue itself, but that worked for us because it’s such a gorgeous venue that we didn’t feel we had to use tons of décor.  We wanted the focus kept on the building and the amazing view of Nashville.  We saved on what decorations we did use!  For centerpieces, we bought some early 1900s law books from a going-out-of-business used bookstore and old doilies from various trips to the flea market.  Other simple decorations used throughout the reception were actually wedding shower gifts!

Who were your favorite vendors and what made them exceptional?
This is tough because all of our vendors were truly amazing!

First of all, the Bridge Building is a wonderful venue that takes care of just about anything you need.  They genuinely cared about every little concern we had and about helping us have the perfect day.

Our wedding coordinator (provided to us through the venue), Lesa Neff, was absolutely wonderful!  She and her team truly cared about making our day everything we wanted it to be.  She took our very vague vision and made it more than we ever could have hoped.  Lesa recommended just about every vendor we chose, and not a single one disappointed us.  On top of being wonderful to work with, the Bridge Building also did our catering, and the food was amazing!  We really got so much more than just a venue when we chose the Bridge Building for our wedding.

Ashley Walters of Forget Me Not Flower Shop and Designs was fantastic because other than wanting wildflowers and knowing the “feel” I wanted our wedding to have, I didn’t have many other specifics for her to go off of, and she totally nailed it!  Our flowers were gorgeous.

We loved the Cupcake Collection because their prices were very reasonable, they were very friendly and easy to work with, and the cake was beyond delicious!

Lisa Wolfe was great to work with because, with me being someone who doesn’t ever do much in the way of hair and makeup, she did an amazing job at making sure I felt beautiful without being uncomfortable. And she is so sweet!!

Finally, our DJ, Rich Matthai, was just so fun!  He made our reception the party we wanted it to be, and we had multiple guests comment about how much they loved him and how fun he was.  He kept the party going all evening long!

Now that the wedding day is over, is there anything about your planning process you feel you could have done differently?
The only thing I can think of is that I shouldn’t have worried so much and just had more fun with the planning.  Not that planning our wedding wasn’t any fun at all, but I am someone who tends to stress about every little detail, so I think I sometimes forgot to just have fun with it!  Other than that, I wouldn’t change a thing!  We hit the jackpot with the Bridge Building and our coordinator Lesa.  I could have stressed a lot more than I did, but they made the process so much easier!

In one sentence, what words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?
Don’t worry so much about all of the little details because it really will all come together and you will have too much fun at your wedding to even remember those little things anyway!
