From Inspiration to the Real Thing: Natural Flowers Inspire Bride’s Wedding Cake

Monday, March 16, 2015

Brooke knew one thing when she began her wedding cake design with Vicki of Signature Cakes by Vicki: she wanted her wedding cake to incorporate real flowers. Brooke and Vicki worked together using inspiration from Pinterest, the relaxed and rustic vibe at Mint Springs Farm, and from Brooke’s wedding dress. They worked together to create not only a treat for the taste buds, but a treat for the eye. The end result was a majestic, five tiered wedding cake with soft, white roses and greenery that reflected Brooke’s wedding dress.

What was the vision for your wedding?

For our wedding, we didn't really have a theme, but I loved the relax rustic vibe that the venue already provided so we just built on top of that!

How did you find Signature Cakes?

My venue was wonderful because they provided food and cake/dessert for us, and they solely work with Signature Cakes for a traditional wedding cake, and we were not disappointed!

What inspired your cake?

I really wasn't sure what I wanted for my cake, but I knew something simple and clean that incorporated real flowers.

How did you approach the design for your wedding cake? Did you take pictures to Vicki or did you meet with her and answer questions about your dress, etc?

I took in some pictures I found on Pinterest of cakes I thought were pretty, but really didn't have a clear design or idea in my head. Vicki asked to see a couple pictures of my dress and began sketching a cake from there. Based of the pictures I showed her and conversations about my likes and dislikes, she was able to draw up something we loved!

What did you want most from your cake - great design, taste, specific details?

Well, who doesn't love wedding cake? So I wanted it to be delicious, first and foremost. And then after that, I just wanted it to be beautiful.

What surprised you about the experience of designing your cake?

I thought I was going to want something with a little bit more texture and a little more modern, but ended up loving our simple and traditional cake.

What were your cake flavors?  Did you have them custom designed or were they standard?

We had a spectrum of cake flavors! We did not want it to be "boring" (none of her flavors are boring!). We had a 5 tier cake and the top tier (which we are saving for our 1st anniversary) is split strawberry and red velvet, Jason and I's favorite. Then we had banana nut, hazelnut milk chocolate, red velvet and white chocolate truffle. And then Jason's groom's cake was two tiers with strawberry and lemon. These were all flavors she offered, and it was really hard to choose, so that's why we went with a spectrum of flavors. Banana nut ended up being most everyone's favorite flavor, we had wished we had chosen it for a bigger tier!

What did you like most about your cake?

I loved how beautiful my cake was, I really think it had an awe factor. It turned out so much more beautiful than I could have imagined. And we had plenty of leftovers to enjoy afterwards!
