Scott & Kristin of Lane Photography Care As Much About Your Marriage As Your Wedding
Monday, March 3, 2014
One thing we get really excited about here at Ashley’s Bride Guide is a photographer that really “gets” it. What we mean by that, is a photographer who truly cares about the couple on the other side of the camera lens. A photographer that appreciates the fact that he or she is capturing the most important day in a couple's life; the coming together of two individuals.
This is why we are excited to introduce Lane Photography to you.
Lane Photography is a husband and wife team who have been photographing weddings for seven years. Their photojournalistic-style allows the bride and groom to look back at the photos of their wedding day and feel that they were a part of each and every moment; capturing the true, natural beauty that is present on that day.
We were lucky enough to chat with Scott, one-half of Lane Photography, to learn a little more about why he and his wife, Kristin, love photographing weddings so much. Take a peek at our interview below:
Please tell us about your photography "style."
I would have to describe our style as a mix between traditional and photo journalistic. I once saw some images from a photographer that I greatly admire. I thought, “wow, the lighting is perfect and he captured that couple in a perfect moment.” Come to find out, he actually directed the couple into that moment, but it looked so natural. So this is what I accomplish for our clients, every shot looks natural and unposed, even if I am directing them into the moment I want to capture. Just look at our blog to see what I mean.
How did you get started in weddings?
I had been photographing kids and families for about two years and one day decided to offer to shoot a friend's wedding who wasn’t going to have a wedding photographer. I instantly felt that weddings were my niche. Trying to find great light and work with it, and capturing moments that very few people get to see in life. It’s a truly amazing experience.
What do you like most about weddings?
Honestly? I like the stress of the day. I think I work best when I am under pressure. That and the fact that no two weddings are alike. We could shoot at the same venue every week and it would never look the same.
What is your service philosophy?
Kristin and I like to make sure that at the end of every wedding we have given 100%. We make sure that if we say something we stick to our word (I believe the whole "my word is my bond" thing is super important.) Then we deliver every product that the client gets on time, and sometimes sooner; basically going above and beyond.
What are your strengths compared to others in your category?
I think one of our main strengths is that we have been doing this for seven years compared to some of the photographers that are just getting into wedding photography. Wedding photography is also our main focus, we don’t specialize in 10 different things, so we know our craft very well. We can also handle any lighting situation, whether it be a dim church or shooting outside at noon.
What attracts brides to Lane Photography?
I believe it’s the fact that we actually care about our clients' marriage and take the time to invest in a relationship with them. We always like to give our clients a super awesome marriage book called “His Needs, Her Needs.” It changed the way Kristin and I looked at our marriage and so we wanted to pass this on to our clients. We also like to have dinner dates, and to spend time with our clients other than a sales meeting with them. We want to truly get to know them, so that when the wedding day gets here, we show up as friends and not just some photographer they met six months ago.
What would previous couples say is the main reason they selected Lane Photography?
How natural our images look. We really do strive to make every image captured seem like we just happened to be there and snapped it as it was happening. We've also had a lot of people tell us that they loved the fact that we are a husband and wife team.
Describe the bride/couple that is most attracted to Lane Photography...
The bride and couple that is most attracted to us are couples who want a connection with their photographer other than just hiring us as a vendor. We want to become friends with our clients. We have past clients who are still our friends to this day, and we spend time with them as often as possible. A bride and couple that think photography is super important. We strive to give our clients the best photography experience they can get, but that also takes time, and the couple that is ok with taking that time, to capture once in a lifetime images is totally cool in our book.
How should brides and grooms contact you to learn more about your services?
The best way to contact us and to learn more is through our website, Lane Photography. The best place to see our most current work is on our Nashville photography blog.
