How did you get started in weddings?
I love to capture the feeling of a moment and translate that into an image that can last forever. Weddings are the perfect place for that.

What do you like most about weddings?
I love working with my wife Sharon and getting to know the bride and groom and then tailoring my captures in a manner that underscores who they are. I love the meticulous planning ahead of time and then the rush of the wedding day where you can’t miss a shot.
What’s your favorite wedding pic/video and why?
My favorite wedding picture is always changing. It is usually one from the last wedding I shot. I have, however, selected one from a few months ago. I love this picture because when I look at it I can see in Julie’s eyes how much she loves and admires Jon. I can see that they are a family now and have a bond that transcends mere words. This is a moment that most of us never get a chance to experience, let alone photograph. I love how the background blurs out because even though they were surrounded by scores of friends and family, this moment was about them. When I see this image I feel like it is a time capsule I’ve created for their great grandchildren.

What are your strengths compared to others in your category? / Why should a bride hire you?
I can find what makes a person beautiful and capture that on film. If done properly, taking photographs is a sacred act. I really feel like I am capturing a little bit of the persons soul and recording it for future generations. I am very respectful of this process and part of the respect is preparing ahead of time for the wedding or session so then when the moment arrives I am not just taking pictures, I am capturing moments. Real moments.

Take this picture, for example, the image isn’t about just getting into the water or doing some outrageous stunt that will look good in a picture. When I look at this image, It’s like we are in a river of time that is rushing by and we have stopped just for a moment for a glimpse of who they are together. Getting in the water, subtly underscores their playfulness and adventurous spirit.
We take the time to get to know our couples so that we can truly capture who they are.

Who are your 5 favorite Nashville wedding vendors – helpfulness, professionalism, style?
How can I pick just five? One of the things that I love most about Nashville is the sense of community here. Even amongst my fellow photographers, we are not competitors, we are like one big family.
One story that illustrates this is this past October, in the midst of my busiest month, my father died, unexpectedly. My best friend and biggest supporter in the whole world - and I was devastated. Sean and Mel from McClellan Style got everyone in the photographic and wedding community together and they all took turns helping me through this, whether it was providing dinners, or helping me edit. Words can’t even begin to describe how much this meant to me. This is but one example of why I think the Nashville wedding community is an amazing group. I could never list just five.
What do you read/watch regularly to stay on top of wedding/event trends?
Ashley’s Bride Guide
Style Me Pretty
Grace Ormonde
Martha Stewart Weddings

What would be doing if you did not work in weddings?
I would be focusing on my portrait photography and Sharon would be singing or doing spanish translation for a living.
Favorite TV show and why?
Jonathon: The Wire (on DVD) Because it has the epic sweep of a classic novel as well as some of the finest writing ever done in television.
Sharon: GLEE and Grey's Anatomy
I love The Wire too!
What are you reading? or last thing you read?
Some books that I have read in the past month, include : The Year of Magical Thinking - Joan Didion, Leaves of Grass -Walt Whitman, An Unfinished Life: John F. Kennedy, 1917-1963 - Robert Dallek, On Photography - Susan Sontag and Unbelievable, The Life Death and Afterlife of the Notorious B.I.G. - Cheo Hodari Coker
