What Planners Are Loving for Nashville Weddings: P.E.W.S

Tuesday, June 10, 2014

We lean on Nashville wedding pros in our community to keep us informed about trends, newcomers to the industry, ideas and inspiration. The nice ones are  always willing to share!

I chatted with Toni of Celebrations by Design and asked – what are you loving in weddings right now? Here’s what's caught her eye:

P.E.W.S (aka Purely Elegant Wedding Statements) - an innovative, yet classic way to have the feel of a traditional church wedding without actually being in a church. Imagine having your ceremony in a beautiful outdoor setting while your guests enjoy your “I do’s” from the comfort of historical, reclaimed wooden pews that were actually once part of a church! We could not love this idea more. No matter what the theme or color scheme of your wedding, P.E.W.S features a multitude of seating selections to choose from for your big day.

I'll let Toni fill you in on just why she thinks P.E.W.S is such a wonderful, unique concept:

What do you like about the P.E.W.S rentals?
Overall, I love the idea of P.E.W.S rentals! I love the way it transforms the ceremony space into your own personal chapel…no matter where it is!  This has been a huge hit for outdoor weddings because it brings the sanctuary outside.

For what type of bride do you feel church pews would work?
Honestly, I feel the church pews can work for any bride! Some would say that this would be more for the Rustic bride, but I feel church pews can be essential in any wedding style and overall decor!   If you are a bride that wants to have the church/chapel feel at your ceremony…but not necessarily at an actual church…this is perfect!  Also, pews come in different styles and finishes and this opens the use of pews to different wedding décor/styles.

Although wedding décor/style has evolved over the years…there are still a lot of couples that want the feeling and tradition of having their wedding ceremony at a church.  For those that want that feeling/tradition, but would also like to think out of the box…this is a perfect fit!  The possibilities are endless!

What do you feel pews bring to a ceremony that differs from the traditional chair?
Some may say that seating is seating!  I beg to differ on that because the pews evoke a different feeling verses the traditional chair!   You can take the same ceremony layout and have pictures of the traditional chair in one picture and pews in the other…surprisingly enough you will have a completely different feeling!  Pews (in certain aspects) bring the church/chapel feel to you…the ceremony is deemed to be more intimate and spiritually based!

Using church pews verses the traditional chair also gives a more uniform look to the ceremony site!   Not to mention it’s easier to line up pews verses chairs! :)

How can you “dress up” a pew to fit in with your wedding design?
There are so many different ways that you can “dress up” pews!  Again, wedding décor has evolved tremendously and the possibilities are endless!  To give you an idea of how diverse pew décor can be, P.E.W.S. out of Birmingham, Alabama has started having a pew décor competition!  What better way to display the possibilities!

Are there any other ways that pews can be used in wedding day festivities?
Pews aren’t just for the wedding ceremony!  Pews are making their way into reception décor as well!

We reached out to the folks at P.E.W.S to get a little more info on how they serve Nashville.  Here's the gist:

"The way P.E.W.S. works is we will deliver and set up the pews the morning of the wedding to give plenty of time for decorations, pictures, etc. Then after the ceremony concludes, we will load the pews and get them out of your way (if that doesn't interfere with the reception). The cost of pews is based on number of guests and distance traveled, so there isn't one pew that is more expensive than the other." ~ Meg from P.E.W.S.

I can speak for all of us here at Ashley’s Bride Guide when I say that we would LOVE reception seating that featured church pews, so original! Renting from P.E.W.S is a definitely a splurge item but they add a wow factor that would be something your guests would remember for a long time to come.
