Nyk and Cali Ashton recently changed their business name, from Cali Ashton Photography to Nyk and Cali Wedding Photographers, and launched a new website and new blog.
I love their new website. I felt like a voyeur as I went from page to page getting to know more about this special couple. I knew they were in love. I knew they were incredible photographers; both facts were undeniable after my first meeting with them. But for those who haven’t met Nyk and Cali, now you can meet them virtually, via their new website.
I contacted Nyk to learn more about their brand and website changes.
Why did you change the name of your business and launch an all new website?
Nyk of Nyk and Cali Wedding Photography: Great question! There are a lot of photographers in Nashville that do AWESOME work and we are good friends with a bunch of them. When you are picking a photographer for your wedding, you obviously want a pro that will deliver those timeless, professional quality photographs, but you also want a photographer that you gel with and like being around because you are going to spend a lot of time with them on your big day. I would personally trust many of our photographer friends to shoot our wedding because they all deliver quality work, so really the determining factor when it comes to choosing a photographer is how well you click (no pun intended) with them. Our previous branding and website was heavily focused on our work, showcasing our photography and showing how we stand out with our images, but every time I looked at our site I felt like it was missing so much because it wasn't showing the most important thing about our business and what our clients enjoy most about working with us!
Most of the time brides and grooms aren’t hiring us only for our work but they are hiring us, Nyk and Cali. We wanted a brand that captures our style. With our new branding we wanted our site to be heavily focused on giving our clients a glimpse into the lives of Nyk + Cali, with all our little quirks and faults and funny habits. We want our clients to be able to get to know us before they ever meet us and designing our site the way we did gave our couples that opportunity.
Your new website definitely does a great job of telling the story of Nyk and Cali along with showcasing your wonderful wedding portfolio for potential couples. What type of couple is most attracted to Nyk and Cali Wedding Photography?
Nyk of Nyk and Cali Wedding Photography: Cali and I are very photojournalistic in the way we approach wedding photography, we want to tell the story of the most important day in your life so that 50 years down the road they can flip through that wedding album with their grandchildren and be able to relive that day with them. The couple that is most attracted to us is the couple that is passionate about their relationship and having their story captured by a couple that is also passionate about love and marriage. They place a high value on photography, it has to be a big deal to them because it is a big deal to us.
We want clients that are serious about their relationship and building a relationship that lasts, we never want their wedding photos to outlive their marriage.
Is there a style that your couples prefer?
Nyk: We can capture the story of any kind of wedding, but we've noticed that most of the couples who are attracted to our style are couples that have more of the natural light, southern, celebratory styled weddings. For us it isn't so much about the venue or what kind of decorations they have, our question to ourselves is, "Is this a couple that we believe we are the best fit for, does our style fit what they are really wanting for their big day?" If so, we book them! If we don't think we are the best choice for them, we'll set up a meeting for them to get to know one of the other awesome photographers we personally know that will be a perfect fit for their wedding.
That’s why it matters so much to you that couple knows who you are, because you really want to know who they are. It’s all about the match between the personality, energy, and love. If you can’t get to know the couple, it’s probably not a good fit. You want a relationship with the couple. You are looking for couples like you!
