We Congratulate Street Tuxedo: Serving Nashville Weddings for 30 Years!
Monday, August 18, 2014
Last night, I attended the 30th Anniversary Party for Street Tuxedo. As an entrepreneur, I know that it takes a lot to start and operate a business and even more to build an enterprise that has staying power. Until last night's event, I attributed the success of Street Tuxedo to its founder's business acumen and commitment to stellar customer service. But it's what drives owner Mark Street that fuels this success.
For Mark, it goes beyond business. Starting each meeting in prayer, he leads his staff with the following... "Street Tuxedo is neither my business nor your business but God's business." And, with any encounter with him, his staff, you will walk sensing this isn't business as usual. These folks love and appreciate their customers, their business partners, their community.
It's that genuine, people-focused approach that makes Street Tuxedo Nashville's favorite tuxedo store. Let's see how they got here...

The initial location, started as Kornman's Department Store, in Madison TN
In 1984, Mark Street, who was looking for a career change from his work in insurance, he started working for and later co-owned Kornman’s Department Store in Madison, Tenn. Though the business sold all types of clothing, the tuxedo rental was by far its most popular, leading Mark to focus solely on renting tuxes and suits. It became a family business: Mark, his son, John and daughter, Rachel all worked — and still work — at Street Tuxedo.
The shop became the go-to location for great tuxes and suits in Nashville. The store would see generations of families walk through the door: They fit men for tuxedos for their weddings who were later bringing in their sons to be fitted for their proms and weddings.
Today, Street Tuxedo has four locations in Cool Springs, Berry Hill, Green Hills and Murfreesboro, serving nearly 500 weddings per year.
When asked what makes Street Tuxedo different from its competitors, Dick Thompson, a family friend who has worked at the shop as director of operations for seven years, was quick to answer, “We can offer a different experience than what they’ll get anywhere else. We are specialists at what we do.”

Unlike big-box stores, Street Tuxedo has thousands of suits and tuxedos available at its warehouse in Berry Hill, making it the largest, most up-to-date stock inventory in Nashville. That means if you’re ever in a crunch for time or need to make a quick change, Street Tuxedo is prepared to handle it.
“Every week, we put together a last-minute tux request and within 30 minutes they’re out the door,” Thompson said.
But more than that, the family business cares about its customers and works hard to provide a service worthy of making it a tradition in your family. They take pride in handling something small like the tuxedo for a couple’s wedding so that the bride and groom can think about more important things.
“We want them to focus on each other,” Thompson said. “The marriage is more important than anything else.”

As a huge supporter of Street Tuxedo, I was honored to celebrate their 30 years of success and humbled to learn why working with Street Tuxedo is such a rare experience. They have supported Ashley's Bride Guide and the Nashville wedding community year after year and more importantly, they have consistently taken great care of our brides and grooms.
As the longest serving, locally owned wedding business in Nashville, please join me today in congratulating them on their success and and thanking them for taking care of Nashville's grooms. This is a family, faith-based business that you want to support.
