You have your perfect dress, shoes and veil. But one often overlooked item that can really make or break a bridal ensemble is the bridesmaids dress. No, they don't have to look better than you do (don't be silly) but that's still no reason for you and your girls to look mismatched!
I met with the stylish girls from the The Bride Room and discussed trends in bridesmaids gowns.
In color trends, grey is really popular now in shades of charcoal or slate. It's usually paired with complimentary tones of peaches or vanilla. This dress is from Watters (watters.com), one of the bridesmaids lines the Bride Room carries. It's a great combination of magenta, an earthy grey and ivory. Plus, it has pockets!!
Amsale Bridesmaids (amsale.com and also available at The Bride Room) has some exquisite gowns.
Or this fabulous dark grey gown by Vera Wang. Her bridesmaid line is available to order from b. Hughes Bridal Formal.
A current favorite trend of mine is patterned dresses. I've seen a few Nashville brides play around with patterns. According to Charlotte at The Bride Room, if you have a neutral color palette - brown, yellow, beige - your girls could wear dresses that have prints or patterns that complement that palette. A lot of these dresses can be found in ready-to-wear stores like J.Crew (jcrew.com) or Ann Taylor (anntaylor.com). This little number is from Anthropologie (anthropologie.com).
J.Crew has a slew of bridesmaids dresses!
Another Anthropologie find. I love the embellishments and the empire waist. It’s called “Remembering Violets”
You could also find inspiration from patterns to find complementary color schemes for your wedding. Using the color schemes, you can go with more of the usual, traditional bridesmaid options that you order from bridal salons. Tip: Don’t forget to allow at least eight weeks (or even a little more than three months as the Bride Room advises) for your bridesmaids dress order. This allows for ample time for alterations.
Put your girls in something that you would be proud to wear. There are no hard, fast rules when it comes to bridal party attire but you do want to make sure that the whole look and feel to your entire celebration is cohesive, and that at the end of the day, everyone looks as good as they’re going to feel.
