Molly & Kirk Show Love for Alabama & America, Dance the Night Away at Their Houston Station Wedding
Friday, September 26, 2014
After living in Nashville for four years, Kirk joined Molly and the two made Nashville their home and the location for their wedding. Their church was the obvious choice for their ceremony. And, Houston Station, with its central location and rustic charm was perfect for their reception. With the venues chosen, the only major detail left was incorporating their University of Alabama pride into their day!
Molly and Kirk are a super cute couple and you can tell they enjoyed every moment and detail of their wedding day. They had one festive celebration!!

Wedding Details
How would you describe your style as a couple?
We are both laid back and love to have fun. We met in Tuscaloosa and are both big Alabama fans, so we knew we wanted to incorporate that, as well. I am from North Carolina and Kirk is from South Alabama, so we wanted our wedding to not only represent us as a couple, but also our families and where we come from.
How did you incorporate that style into your wedding?
As soon as we walked into Houston Station, we knew it was the venue for us. We liked the proximity to downtown for our out-of-town guests and we loved the rustic style. For colors, I wanted everything to be neutral, but pretty. We decided on a light gray with pops of pale pink. I love how it turned out – soft and pretty, but not overbearing.
When we met with Abi from Bright Event Productions, I fell in love with the grapevine balls and the Italian string lights. I am a third grade teacher and I loved the use of chalkboards – especially the one that said Roll Tide! Kirk loved his groom’s cake, which combined two of this favorite things: Alabama and America. We drank champagne from silver flutes that my grandparents used at their wedding and we had framed pictures of our parents’ and grandparents’ wedding days in the front hallway.
What was your (or your guests’) favorite aspect of your wedding?
The Steven Padilla Band was fantastic and did a great job of making sure everyone had a blast! Our out of towners really fell in love with Nashville. Everyone told us they were recovering for about a week, which was our goal. We always said that we wanted our wedding to be FUN. Our wedding party also really loved the party bus that hauled us from Houston Station, where we got ready and did the first look, to the church for the wedding, and back to Houston Station for the reception.
Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?
We loved Houston Station and even though it is a pricier venue, we were able to bring in our own alcohol and use whatever venders we wanted. We also wanted a great photographer and videographer, because when it’s all said and done, that’s what you have to remember the day. Flowers weren’t super important to me, so our wedding planner bought them wholesale and arranged them for us. They looked beautiful, and it was much cheaper than using an expensive florist.
Now that the wedding day is over, is there anything about your planning process you feel you could have done differently?
Wedding planning can be stressful, but I really would not do anything differently. Our wedding was so “us” and we couldn’t imagine it any other way!
In one sentence, what words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?
1. Don’t sweat the small stuff. This is going to be the best weekend of your life and if something goes wrong, you are probably going to be the only one who ever notices. 2. I highly suggest doing your first look before walking down the aisle. I would have thrown up from nerves if I waited and I felt so calm after I saw Kirk. We were able to go straight from the church to the party bus and into Houston Station. We had a quiet minute to ourselves to eat (best idea ever) and got to join the party without much delay.
