After Long Distance Relationship, Twin Marries Twin at Nashville’s Houston Station with Two Fat Men

Weddings are complicated affairs, but rarely do they go beyond the rehearsal, ceremony, and reception. Although, that’s not the case with Megan and Mike, whose wedding was filled with extravagance for every guest to enjoy. Extra touches like cocktail hour, exquisite design details and action food stations indulged guests at every turn.
Their wedding was the epitome of Southern class, with chic peach, navy, and ivory colors and the gorgeous Houston Station rustic feel. Hints of vintage, like the old frame window sign, were perfect to cap off their style, and of course we loved the food. Who doesn’t love mac and cheese?
The fact that they are both identical twins and endured a long distance relationship endeared us to their wedding story even more. Learn all about this amazing couple below!

How would you describe your style as a couple?
Mike and I wanted our wedding to be timeless, Southern, simple, and classic, and I think that describes our style as a couple, too! Our friends and family were the most important part of our wedding and we wanted them to have a great time.
Where did you get your inspiration?
During our first meeting with our florist, I fell in love with the vintage peach color of Juliet Garden Roses. We knew we wanted navy blue bridesmaid dresses because we loved the classic look, and the peach color looked great against it! Also, we loved ivory flowers mixed in! Those colors became the pallet we used for inspiration. Pictures from Pinterest, Ashely’s Bride Guide, and The Knot were really helpful as we narrowed down our choices.
How did you incorporate that style into your wedding?
For us, Houston Station completely represented our style. The beautiful hardwood floors, Southern rustic charm, and exposed brick were elements we especially loved.
We wanted our food to be simple and delicious, and Two Fat Men helped us bring in elements of Southern comfort (especially important since we had a winter wedding!) through designing a Mac-and-Cheese bar, a made-to-order grilled cheese station, “Fat Man” Banana Pudding, and many other delicious and unique food options.
Working with the Hermitage Hotel to plan our rehearsal dinner really allowed us to incorporate our style as well. They designed a signature cocktail for us and customized the menu to highlight Nashville cuisine, which was special since almost all of our guests were from out of town.
What was your (or your guests’) favorite aspect of your wedding?
Our guests were absolutely blown away by our band, Top Tier Band, and many said that they were the best part of the reception. The musicians engaged and entertained our guests more than any band I’ve ever seen! They even pulled Mike and me onto the stage and had us play cowbells, which was hilarious.
Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?
Deciding to invest in a wedding planner was the area where we splurged, and we found this to be well worth the money! Our planner, Kristin, helped us save SO much time by introducing us to vendors who fit our style and our price range. We also decided to spend more on our décor than we originally planned, and we were so happy that we did! We had a beautiful chandelier above the dance floor, a wall of lights highlighting the band, draping over some of the columns in the main room, etc. These extra touches made such a difference in the overall feel of the room! We had our cocktail hour in the large hallway outside of the reception room in Houston Station, and we decided to decorate this area ourselves in order to save money and personalize the look. We hung pictures on the walls that showed us throughout our lives, and made the hallway look really special! Both Mike and I are identical twins, so we have lots of cute and funny pictures from our childhoods.
Who were your favorite vendors and what made them exceptional?
It’s hard to pick just a few because we really had phenomenal vendors! Top Tier Band made sure our guests had a blast and even let a couple of guests sing with them onstage. We also loved working with Juanita at Dulce Desserts and with Two Fat Men for our catering. Both companies completely customized the food for our event and worked within our budget, and we could not have been more pleased! We were also thrilled with our photographer and loved the way she told our story through photos. And, of course, we could not have pulled this off without our incredible wedding planner, Kristin!
Now that the wedding day is over, is there anything about your planning process you feel you could have done differently?
Mike and I were dating long distance during almost all of our engagement and neither of us lived close to family. Even though my mom and Mike were highly involved, sometimes being far from Mike and family made the planning process a little more difficult and a little more daunting. In retrospect, I think I could have done a better job leaning on my Nashville friends who often offered to help but who I didn’t want to burden!
In one sentence, what words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?
One of our friends told us to find time during the reception to completely stop, look around at the friends and family surrounding us, and to slowly take in the moment. The day went by so fast that we were grateful that we stopped to take it all in!
