Sophisticated & Southern: Jessica & Adam’s Kate Spade-inspired, Wedding at Nashville’s aVenue

Friday, April 4, 2014

“Modern Kate Spade.” This is how bride Jessica describes her dream wedding. Helping to make that dream a beautiful reality was Sarah Ann Miller of Randi Events. This gorgeous winter wedding was held at aVenue, in the heart of bustling downtown Nashville. aVenue is a contemporary yet rustic, dramatic two-story space that is a true blank canvas, making it the perfect location for Jessica and Adam to have a truly distinctive wedding that was all their own.

Jessica and Sara Ann worked together to create a winter-inspired wonderland of billowy crisscrossed draping complete with bistro lighting that suspended gracefully from the ceiling, tables dripping in romantic candlelight, trendy white lounge furniture and even modern ghost chairs for a unique twist. The elegant color scheme was comprised of navy, gray and silver with hints of varying shades of pinks and greens to add an ever-so-slight pop of color to the exquisite flower arrangements that greeted guests.

Really…I could go on and on, but you should definitely take a look at this stunning fete for yourself…

My Wedding Details

How would you describe your style as a couple?
When our cake designer, Juanita of Dulce Desserts, sat us down the first thing she said was, "Y'all are simple yet sophisticated; like a Modern Kate Spade! I love it".
Although she made the phrase up on the spot (we think), it describes us perfectly and definitely fit the tone of our wedding. We're both laid back and enjoy simple things but also love dressing up and "getting fancy" from time to time.

How did you incorporate that style into your wedding?
We knew that we wanted an elegant winter wedding with fitting winter colors such as navy, gray/silver, and touches of pinks and greens. However we did not want it to feel too "stuffy" or stiff and definitely wanted to include some fun trendy elements. We wanted it to be polished/refined but most importantly wanted to create an atmosphere of laid back Nashville fun and celebration for our guests. We chose aVenue for all of those reasons.

As for the details, we had a few ideas in mind when we started but a lot of the credit really must go to our event planner Sarah Miller. She nailed every aspect we were looking for and was spot on with our style. The venue was beautiful and elegant yet not too over the top or stuffy. Like a "Modern Kate Spade"… Our guests keep telling us that the vibe at aVenue fit us perfectly as a couple.

What was your (or your guests’) favorite aspect of your wedding?
The setup and decor at aVenue was simply stunning. Anthropologie [the bride's favorite store] meets Southern Living is how we keep describing it; our guests couldn't get over how amazing everything looked, down to the smallest of details. To put that scene together with the Brandon Lay Band is something people are still talking about now and we think they will be for a while. aVenue's set up/decor and the band were our favorite aspects of the wedding too.

Where did you splurge?  Where did you save/DIY?
We did a lot of our own work with invitations such as save the dates, wedding, rehearsal, etc. and having an awesome singer/band as a close family friend didn't hurt either. Our ceremony venue Scarritt-Bennett is absolutely beautiful on its own and is also somewhat limited in what you can do with its space (in order to help preserve its historic attributes) so we saved a lot on ceremony costs, allowing us to spend more on our reception at aVenue. We definitely splurged on the reception decor and the food, but it was well worth it.

Now that the wedding day is over, is there anything about your planning process you feel you could have done differently?
Even though the process was stressful at times, it's hard to pick out anything that we would've done differently. Everyday since the wedding passed, we think of how perfect everything was and couldn't have asked for a better day. Looking back at it now, the days/times that were stressful were absolutely worth it since we have a memory like the one we've got. So, you could say we regret stressing the little things at times but I guess that's human nature!

In one sentence, what words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?
ENJOY IT - the day goes by SO fast that every couple should not only enjoy celebrating when the big day comes but also all the steps/time/effort put into making  and planning the day you'll never forget.
