After Long Distance Relationship, Stylish Moiro + Robert Wed at Alma Mater, Fisk University

Friday, July 31, 2015

Distance is not without its difficulties, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth it.  Although Moiro & Robert were separated by nearly the entire United States, that didn’t stop them from creating a wedding day they would remember forever.

The bride and groom formally unified at a place that was dear to both of them, their alma mater Fisk University.  In splashes of navy, orchid, and turquoise, this vintage, eclectic bride and conservative groom hosted an absolutely breathtaking ceremony, thanks to their wonderful planners and tight-knit community.

From the bold, vibrant colors to the smart patterns, there's much to love about this Nashville wedding.  What do we love most?  Their historic venue, which was cut from the canvas of their past.

How would you describe your style as a couple?
We are a merger of conservative (groom) & vintage eclectic (bride).

Where did you get your inspiration?
Décor & Style: We took to Pinterest!  Neither of us have planned anything this huge, so we perused several wedding décor boards to get a handle on what we liked & what we could live without on our special day.  Colors: The bride had a few color options already, but both the bride & groom landed on the scheme (navy, turquoise, & orchid).

How did you incorporate that style into your wedding?
Since the ceremony was outside, the vibrant green grass and the castle-like Cravath Hall served as the perfect canvas to our understated decorations.  All of the ceremony flowers were white, and the pops of color were the bridesmaid dresses and the bride’s bouquet.

What was your (or your guests’) favorite aspect of your wedding?

Our favorite aspect of our wedding was being around close friends and family at our alma mater.

Where did you splurge?  Where did you save/DIY?
We splurged with our wedding photography because we wanted the best eye to capture the heart of our special day.  Without question, Emanuel Roland was the best and only choice for us!

We saved with much of the decorations.  Again, Pinterest was a huge help in narrowing down what I (bride) envisioned for the ceremony and reception spaces.  I expressed my initial ideas to my wedding planner, and she ran with it.  My bridesmaids and several of my sorority sisters had an assembly line going to put centerpieces and aisle markers together the night before the wedding.

Who were your favorite vendors and what made them exceptional?
Chef Penelope is a stand-out vendor; she wowed us from the initial tasting to the main course!  She is such a vibrant and pleasant person, and her staff and food were a reflection of her passion for delicious food.

The designer of my bridesmaid dresses, Soila Konchellah (@WearKonchellah) did a phenomenal job with the vision I had for my favorite girls.  I’m not sure if all brides hope that the bridesmaid dresses will be worn beyond their wedding day.  Soila made sure that these dresses would not only be a conversation piece, but a functional and stylish addition to each of my lovely bridesmaids’ wardrobes.

My wedding planner, (i.e. Superwoman) Dee Hammonds, was everything that I needed and so much more that I didn’t know I needed.  I can’t fully express in 140 characters just how perfect Dee has been during these past nine months; she is exactly who we needed.  Exactly.

Now that the wedding day is over, is there anything about your planning process you feel you could have done differently?
I’ve been joking with my wedding planner, saying, “If I could do it all over again, I’d just give you the money and tell you to surprise me.”  The main hurdle in planning this beautiful May wedding in Nashville was that the bride (at the time) lived in Florida, and the groom lived in California.  What?  Right.  Our wedding planner was the glue that held all of this together.  We had to be very strategic about conference call times, periodic Nashville visits, and all other factors that come with planning a wedding from out of state.  Short of moving to Nashville for nine months, I could’ve been a bit more organized and intentional about what needed to be accomplished and when.

In one sentence, what words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?
Do not forsake the offering of help from your family and trusted friends.  They love you, and their help will be invaluable as the time draws nearer to your Big Day!
