Julie Trusts Her Planner, Finds the Perfect Team for Her Nashville Wedding - Part 2: Wedding Details
Friday, July 26, 2013
"My wedding planner Michelle was my hero." That comment stood out most during my conversation with Julie, a recent Nashville bride. As she told me about her wedding, it was clear that while she was very pleased with her wedding day, she did not enjoy the wedding planning - at all. Thanks to her planner, Michelle of Burlap and Brooches, and the team she helped Julie assemble, Julie's day was blog-worthy all without reading a single wedding blog! The irony of that:).
Julie's a delight, and I'm honored to share her wedding, which was beautifully photographed by Ian Riley (also a referral from her planner). If you missed her hair and makeup session, click here, then return to read all of the splendid details of her wedding day!

My Wedding Details
Describe your wedding in one word?
Intimate
How would you describe your style as a couple?
We both value tradition and elegance but are equally laid back and enjoy having a good time with our friends and family.
How did you incorporate that style into your wedding?
It was important to us to be married in a church, and Spencer particularly wanted the church to be historic and beautiful. The intimacy and relaxed environment of Rumours East also suited how we wanted the occasion to be. I wanted the overall feel to be classic and timeless so I chose neutral colors for the attire and incorporated materials such as lace and burlap into the décor. My dress was all lace and the earrings I had made for myself and my bridesmaids were made from vintage chandelier crystals. The after party was much more relaxed and modern with an open bar and a house DJ. I changed into a shorter dress with a feathered skirt and Spencer into a more casual suit, and of course we accessorized with glow necklaces!
What was your favorite aspect of your wedding?
Everyone loved the intimacy and coziness of Rumours East. The patio laced with Italian string lights was especially stunning and our favorite moment of the reception was the giving of toasts and cutting of cake out there with all our family and friends. And of course our friends who attended the after party loved dancing the night away with house music and glow sticks, as did we!
Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?
We splurged on essentially having two reception locations. We had always talked about wanting an after party at our wedding though so there was no compromising on that. We saved on the little things like printing our own invitations and programs and making the decorations and not having things like engagement photos, save the dates, or a videographer.
Now that the wedding day is over, is there anything about your planning process you feel you could have done differently?
It ended up being cold on our wedding day which I never thought would happen as October is typically a very warm month. Even though I had put a deposit on a tent months earlier as a precaution, it was still very stressful in the last week rearranging seating charts and decoration plans because of the weather. I would suggest to any couple to make sure you’re mentally prepared for whatever could happen and don’t think that something won’t happen to you!
Why are you glad that you hired a planner?
It was the best decision I made in the planning process. Michelle took the majority of the work and stress away, connected me with my vendors, and was even able to provide a large amount of the décor. In the long run I saved so much money and time by hiring her.
Why did you select your venue and would you recommend it to others?
Spencer and I live in and love east Nashville so it came naturally to us to search for a reception venue in our own neighborhood. We didn’t want the reception to feel formal and clichéd, and Rumours East had the comfortable but elegant ambiance we were looking for. Not to mention the food is delicious!
We selected Events @1418 for our after party because of its smaller size, proximity to downtown, and for the charm of its woods floors and exposed brick walls. The staff was outstanding; they were more than willing to work within our budget and accommodate all our special requests. I would definitely recommend both of our venues to anyone.
In one sentence, what words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?
Stay true to yourselves and your style, don’t feel you have to do something because it’s tradition or what you’re “supposed” to do.
