My Wedding Details
How would you describe your style as a couple?
I think our style as a couple would be modern, unique, and fun!
How did you incorporate that style into your wedding?
For many years, I knew I wanted to wear a dress that had some black in it. I also knew that Patrick and I wanted to have a wedding that was very focused on our guests having a great time. We chose Rocketown because it’s a very unique venue and provides the modern, edgy feel we were going for, while still allowing us to keep many traditional aspects of the day.
What was the favorite aspect of your wedding?
I had two favorites: my dress and our first dance.
I knew I had found the dress of my dreams the first time I saw it. It was elegant and unique and fit my personality perfectly.
As for our first dance, I have always wanted to do something fun. Patrick is a great dancer, and I really enjoy it myself. We are always the first people on the dance floor and always the last people to leave. We decided not long after becoming engaged that we wanted to do a fun first dance, but we also wanted to keep it a secret from EVERYONE until the wedding day. It wasn’t until we decided to add my maid of honor and his best man that we let anyone in on our secret.

Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?
My biggest splurge was definitely my dress…but it was worth every penny. We also provided our guests with Sno-Balls (both alcoholic and non), which were a big hit and I’m glad we decided to add that detail.
Our biggest savings was definitely on the food. BBQ is Patrick’s favorite food, so we decided to go that route instead of having a more formal meal…and we are both so we glad we did. Jim'N Nick's Bare-B-Q were GREAT to work with and the food was amazing! I’ve had several people tell me how great everything tasted!
Now that the wedding day is over, is there anything about your planning process you feel you could have done differently?
We would have hired a videographer. Patrick and I originally opted out of this detail because we thought it would be too expensive and then as the wedding got closer we just ran out of time. Looking back, I think we would have really enjoyed it and it definitely would have been worth the money.
In one sentence, what words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?
Don’t sweat the small stuff! If you have a gut feeling about something you want or don’t want at your wedding, go with it. Don’t talk yourself out of something you really want because it may be a little different or you think some guests may not like it. Remember, this is your day as a couple; show your true personalities!
