Cake. When you think of weddings, the cake is often a top runner in the list of planning priorities. Think about it. You serve it at engagement parties, bridal showers, wedding luncheons, the reception (of course), and sometimes at the rehearsal dinner.  It’s a wedding icon.

Not long ago, I discovered a little bakery gem that has quickly become one of my favorites. If you enjoy eating cake, then you must give them a try! As an event planner, I taste a lot of cake. Seriously, A LOT of cake. And, Nothing Bundt Cakes serves up a delicious cake that is worthy of your next special occasion.

Just as the name implies, they only bake bundt cakes. You can choose from 10 delicious flavors and my personal favorites are chocolate chocolate chip, white-white chocolate, and lemon. And, pumpkin spice is also pretty awesome, but it will only be here for a limited time since it’s a Flavor of the Month. (Ok, true confession, I have tried all 10 flavors and there’s not a bad one in the bunch.)

Each cake is topped with thick petals of delicious cream cheese frosting that is the perfect balance for every flavor. I especially like the Drizzle frosting since it has a more delicate design.

Besides traditional bundt cakes, you can order Bundtlets that are perfect individual servings, or Bundtinis for a delicious bite-sized treat. Imagine a tiered bundt cake surrounded by a sea of bundtinis on your dessert table. No need to choose just one flavor! Pick all of your favorites and give your guests an array of deliciousness. They’d also make a perfect addition to your bridal shower or bridesmaids luncheon. Maybe even give them as a favor dressed up in a cute little bakery box!

Paper Cones - A Versatile & Beautiful Design Element For Your Wedding

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

At the last bridal show, we fell in love with the paper cones at the My Lady Dye booth.  Amy, of Swizzle Events, was with us and told us the many ways that a bride could use paper cones for her wedding design.  We've invited Amy to share her super creative ideas with you today.

She's always got such great ideas and we're sure you will love the many ways you can incorporate them into your wedding details

Wedding Ideas from Amy of Swizzle Events

Wedding stationery

Over the last several years, this category of wedding design has grown by leaps and bounds.  Gone are the days when you simply had to choose an invitation style with matching place cards.  There are so many elements to the wedding paper suite now.  When it's all said and done, you can have custom signs, menues, save the date cards, table numbers, welcome packets for out-of-town guests, hand fans and even water bottle labels printed to match your wedding design.

One of my favorite trends is the paper cone.  It's a versatile piece that can be simple or elaborate.  They can be used for everything from flowers to food.   And, you can even make them yourself if you are the crafty/creative type and have time for a D-I-Y project.

So just how will you use a paper cone in your wedding?  A popular option is to fill them with flower petals or biodegradable confetti.  The filled cones can be arranged on a table or hung on guest chairs.  Then, when your ceremony is over your guests can shower you with the confetti as you make your grand exit.

Paper cones are also a pretty alternative to a more conventional flower vase or basket.  I love the idea of filling pretty cones with an arrangement of flowers.

And, this creative twist on floral is perfect for an autumn wedding!  Love the leaves and natural elements!

Personalized Cones

While visiting a recent bridal show downtown, we came across the beautiful work of My Lady Dye (MyLadyDye.com - If you are looking for gorgeous stationery for your wedding you really need to pay Diane a visit.)  One of my favorite items is her personalized paper cones.  She uses beautiful paper and will print the inside with your monogram or a favorite phrase.  I love this level of detail!

Treats Sweet and Savory

Now, when it comes to using paper cones, you are only limited by your imagination.  Dessert tables are a popular place for paper cones.  You can fill them with any kind of small treat such as candy, popcorn, or candied nuts.  And you can even tie them closed and use them as favor “boxes”.  (One word of caution, when you use paper as a food container, make certain that it is coated or “waxy” to prevent grease spots from ruining your beautiful design.)

The possibilities are endless for this little design element.  And it’s very easy to make it work for your budget and style.  From D-I-Y to personalized with a monogram, the paper cone is a trend that I hope will stick around for a few more seasons!

We hope these options work for you and your wedding!  Thank you so much to Amy for being our guest blogger today.  For more great wedding inspiration, visit Swizzle Events' website and blog.

Nashville Bridesmaid Parties - Fun, Creative and Not-so-Traditional!

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

I love that weddings bring together friends, sisters - everyone to celebrate. With this in mind, I went on a search for creative ideas for bridal celebrations. When Amy of Swizzle Events responded and shared this unique bridesmaid getaway, I asked her to share it with you...

Bridesmaid luncheons, bridal teas, and bridal brunches are a time to gather your best girls, the ones who have seen you through thick and thin, and celebrate your friendship. Whatever you call it, it’s a tradition that’s as old as time.

So what do you do if you aren’t that traditional bride who loves to visit the tea room? The possibilities are endless! Take a cue from your own favorites. Maybe you'd love a night out on the town or the quiet of a mountain cabin. Perhaps a concert followed by a fusion dinner is more your style.

Maybe you’ll be like Mariska, a recent Nashville bride who traded in the traditional party for a Girlfriend Getaway in the Mountains!

She had a wonderfully large wedding party that included her sister and friends she had made in middle school, high school, college, and church. Here is what she had to say about her unique bridesmaid getaway:

“We went to Blue Ridge, Georgia and stayed in my husband’s aunt’s log cabin in the mountains. The scenery was absolutely beautiful and completely relaxing. I wanted all of my bridesmaids to get to know each other before my big day. I didn’t want them to meet each other for the first time the day of my wedding. It was really nice being able to get away with my bridesmaids for a weekend to have girl time and to discuss wedding details with all of the girls who mean the most to me in my life".

(That's Mariska on the far right.  Thanks for sharing your photos Mariska!)

One day, we went into the town (Blue Ridge, GA) and went shopping throughout all the antique stores in town.  We ate at a tea room where we all dressed up in hats. So fun!  One night we had a bonfire in the backyard of our cabin and had s’mores. We stayed up all night talking by the bonfire and in the jacuzzi outside. It was nice being able to sit and talk outside with the moon and the mountains as our view.

It was a great time for me and my bridesmaids to bond before my big day and for them to get to know each other.  Most bridesmaids know the bride for various reasons (sister, childhood friend, college friend, etc) and usually they all don’t know each other.  By having a getaway with your bridesmaids, you give them time to get to know each other, which will make your day more special and less awkward for everyone. I had a great time on our trip and made amazing memories with my close friends that will stay with me forever!”

Looking for something a little closer to home?  Try a visit to Arrington Vineyards, a gorgeous hillside winery just south of Nashville.  They have two tasting rooms and ample seating areas outside complete with picnic tables.  You can plan a casual picnic and treat your bridesmaids to a wine tasting and maybe a bottle of wine as a gift.  Another fun option is to join them for Music in the Vines beginning weekends in April.  You can preorder a picnic dinner from one of their caterers, bring your blankets or chairs and enjoy live music under the stars.  You can also rent a private area for larger parties.

Want something more contemporary?  How about planning a chic dinner at Virago?  With sleek lounge seating and delicious sushi and fusion cuisine, it’s sure to be a hit.  Located on Division Street in Nashville, Virago offers a catering menu that you can use to plan your dinner from start to finish or you can simply order from the menu.  Looking for something a little more casual?  How about the Wildhorse Saloon?  You can rent the Riverview Room and enjoy a fabulous dinner.  Best kept secret: their private dining room overlooks the river and has a fabulous view.  When you’re finished, take the party out to the dance floor and kick up your heels!

This is such an exciting time in your life!  As you get ready for the great journey of marriage, remember to take some time and enjoy the remarkable ladies in your life.
