You can see it in their smiles - Trista + Doug's wedding day in Nashville was unforgettable! From two special wedding gowns handmade by the bride's mother, a first look with the bride's father, and 200 guests dancing a la Great Gatsby, the couple could not have asked for more. Their Cannery wedding (both upstairs and downstairs!) was decked out in Art Deco elements - even the groom's cake and napkins stayed spiffy! The night was topped off by sending the couple off in a vintage 1920s classic car. I'll let the bride herself take it from here along with gorgeous photography by Crystal Petrina Photography.

How did you guys meet?
Trista: We were introduced by a friend at Meharry Medical College, School of Dentistry (Doug was a dental student and I worked there). Although we didn't hit it off initially, the timing was perfect about a month later at a co-worker's birthday dinner and we haven't looked back.
Tell us about your engagement!
Trista: As a distraction, Doug planned an "all day date" that consisted of brunch, a visit to the Adventure Science Center, CVS and Starbucks (the last 2 were definitely time wasting activities looking back lol).
While at Starbucks, he mentioned that he wanted to walk down the Pedestrian Bridge but I tried to talk him out of it because it was so hot (July 26, 2014). He persisted so I gave in and we made our way there. A little while after we got on the bridge, a couple came up to us with some balloons and a card. I didn't read the card and took the balloons, but I didn't think anything of it. A few more steps down the bridge, two young girls gave me another card and a bouquet of flowers. At this point, I thought it was for our 2 year anniversary which took place earlier in the week. A couple of more steps and my nephew jumped out from who knows where and yelled my name with another card.
All of a sudden music began to play, my family and friends came from behind the beams on the bridge, and Doug turned to a photographer (that I never noticed taking pictures the entire time) and grabbed a box. He got down on his knee, asked me to marry him, and through horrible sobbing I said yes!
What was the vision for your wedding?
Trista: We wanted to focus on the overall experience for our guests. It was also important for me to execute some small details that would really bring everything together.
What was your theme and what inspired it?
Trista: We had an Art Deco theme that was inspired by Great Gatsby. I love vintage fashion and the 20s and 30s is a favorite era of mine.
What details were used to create your theme?
Trista: We had lots of details! Our colors were black and gold, our invitations were very "Gatsby" inspired, tuxedo folded napkins, a custom gobo, music during cocktail hour, props for the photobooth, our cakes, we had a 1929 classic car, and all signage and menus were printed using Art Deco font.
Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?
Trista: We splurged on the venue. The Cannery Building has 2 spaces used for weddings and we rented both. We saved just about everywhere else with lots of DIY projects. I printed all signage and menus, lots of the decor elements and details were DIY (my mom created pillars for our ceremony space with cardboard boxes!), and it really helped that my mom made both of my dresses.
What words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?
Trista: Have a conversation about what is really important to the both of you (food, music, fashion, theme). This helps focus the planning process and helps both people feel included. Also, go with your gut!!
Can you share any special moments or highlights from your wedding day?
Trista: I wanted the first time Doug saw me in my dress to be walking down the aisle, so we didn't do a first look. I opted to do one with my dad instead and it was amazing! So glad I made that choice.
Although it is cliché, walking down the aisle to Doug was the most special moment of the day. I didnt hear the music, I didn't see anyone, it really is tunnel vision to your soon to be spouse. His smile at that moment can't be beat.
Thank you so much to Trista for all the great advice and sharing your beautiful wedding photos!

Most often we think of Southern cuisine served in the iconic Loveless Cafe when we think of Loveless as a whole. However, Loveless Events offers so much more! From off-site catering, to bartending to rentals, Loveless Events Catering gives Nashville brides a breather by planning all the details for your big day. Customization for your wedding menu is Loveless’ specialty which makes each and every event unique. Here’s more from the Loveless Events Catering team…
Tell us about what Loveless Events Catering offers.
Loveless Events Catering offers everything you love about the Loveless Cafe, plus so much more. Not only do we cater events in our own two spaces - the Barn and the Harpeth Room - but we also bring catering to other Nashville event venues, private residences, offices, etc. Our menus include everything from the familiar items like fried chicken and biscuits, to more elegant menus and styles. We also offer further involvement in planning if needed; we are able to handle rentals, timeline, floor plan, lighting and more along with our delicious food service! And in everything we do, we are event professionals with true southern hospitality.
How many years has Loveless Events offered catering services?
Loveless Events has offered catering services for over seven years now. Our menus have grown immensely, and so has our expertise.
What type of food does Loveless Events Catering specialize in?
You might think that because we stem from the Loveless Cafe, our menu is strictly fried chicken and biscuits, but that's not all we can do! The Loveless Events culinary team specializes in adapting our talents to your tastes to create the perfect menu for your event.
What other types of cuisine can Loveless Events Catering provide?
While we can provide classic southern fare, we can also create fun, more unique options such as shrimp and grits, a beef tenderloin carving station, or a plated meal featuring steak and prawns! We'll tailor our talents to your tastes.
What sets you apart from other catering companies?
The Loveless Events team can be as involved in the event as you'd like, which is not something you often see with other catering companies. This means we can fully staff your event, arrange for all the rentals (tents, tables, linen, flatware, etc.), and even contract other vendors for you. Another unique feature that you might not know is that we have full beer and alcohol licenses to be able to serve properly at your event.
What is the philosophy behind Loveless Events Catering?
Our philosophy is to always offer the highest level of service possible. We will be diligent in the planning process, our culinary team is passionate about every dish, and our operations team ensures your event runs smoothly on the day of. We have our own venues, the Loveless Barn and the Harpeth Room, so we understand everything that goes into a successful event and we are ready to help you accomplish that.
What trends are you seeing in wedding catering for 2016?
We think action stations are the next big thing. Having action stations at your wedding allows for guests to mingle and enjoy the party while still getting a full meal and leaving satisfied. You can mix and match stations to give guests a variety of choices too: How about a blue ribbon salad station with our BBQ martini bar and a mac & cheese station to accompany!
What else would you like to share about Loveless Events Catering with Nashville brides?
One thing we would love for people to learn is that we offer much more than the classic southern dishes from the Loveless Cafe; what we offer goes well beyond that. The Loveless Events team is ready for any style event whether formal or more casual because we offer the true southern hospitality that cannot be matched, and a variety of options that are sure to capture anyone's tastes! Proposals are complimentary and we would love to show you what we offer.
So think outside the box for your wedding or rehearsal dinner! Loveless Events Catering will satisfy your tastebuds with a variety of menus to choose from. I don’t know about you, but now I’m hungry! :)
Thanks to Loveless Events for sharing more about the catering side of their business. You can follow them on Instagram or Facebook. And be sure to visit their website to find out more details about catering.

A day at Arrington Vineyards is not one to forget! Especially when you spend it taking your engagement photos. And that's exactly how the story went for Kayla and Matthew! It was instant chemistry with these two and you can tell in their photos by Christina Pugh Photography. It was so instant that the couple decided to elope a month later! I'll let Kayla take it from here...
Kayla + Matthew
Photographer | Christina Pugh Photography
Engagement Shoot Location | Arrington Vineyards
Engagement Shoot Date | April 24, 2016
Elopement Date | May 28, 2016
How did you guys meet?
Kayla: Matt and I met through a mutual friend during the summer of 2015 at the beach. We quickly saw the connection and enjoyed each other's presence. We decided to start dating despite the 12 hours and several states that separated us. We could see quickly that we were both blessings from God to each other.
Tell us about your proposal!
Kayla: After about a month, Matt already knew that I was the one he wanted to marry. Crazy. After about four months of dating, Matt proposed to me in a small town in Texas with my best friend capturing the moment beneath Christmas lights.
What inspired your engagement session with Christina Pugh Photography?
Kayla: During our engagement, I was living in Nashville teaching for my graduate program. Matt came down from Pennsylvania often to visit, so we couldn't think of anywhere as picturesque to have our engagement session. We talked with our photographer and thought it could be a fun date and photo opportunity to go to a local Nashville vineyard. We got to walk around, hear some live music, taste some wine, and eat snacks in the glow of the sunset.
What are your wedding plans?
Kaya: Shortly after our engagement session, we had the pleasure of eloping on May 28th at State College in Pennsylvania with our immediate families. We can't wait to celebrate with the rest of our friends and family at a reception in August. We have been very blessed!
Thanks so much for sharing your photos, Kayla + Matthew! We wish you the best!
