Bride Keeps it Simple with Brentwood Ceremony & Reception, Plus Las Paletas Popsicles!

Friday, November 22, 2013

One way to make my heart smile is when I encounter a couple who has their priorities in order — they know that the wedding is simply a day to celebrate with family and friends, and the true emphasis should be on the marriage itself.

Meet Leah and Trey, a couple who was determined not to get too caught up in the details of their wedding day, but instead committed to having a fun, simple and relaxed event that their friends and family would remember for a long while.

Leah told me all about her October wedding held last year at Harpeth Hills in Brentwood. Here's what she had to say about her day.

Special thanks to Amy Nicole Photography for helping us feature Leah's wedding.

My Wedding Details

How would you describe your style as a couple?

Very eclectic, laid back and simple.

How did you incorporate that style into your wedding?

We chose a beautiful church where we could have both the wedding and reception in one area: very simple. We had only one flower arrangement and the bouquets for the bridesmaids, so the main decoration for the ceremony was our wedding party. Our colors were champagne and lavender, which are very light and simple. We didn’t stress about or focus on the details and everything just came together and was very eclectic.

What was your (or your guests’) favorite aspect of your wedding?

We loved that our wedding was very laid back, simple and enjoyable. There was no stress. Also everyone loved the Las Paletas popsicles!

Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?

I splurged on my dress and photographer and saved on decorations.

Now that the wedding day is over, is there anything about your planning process you feel you could have done differently?

Everything went so smoothly and perfectly. I wouldn’t have done anything differently. My wedding planner was worth her weight in gold.

In one sentence, what words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?

Don’t get lost in the production, instead stick to the most important things.

For many women, their fascination with weddings fades after they say, “I do.” Not for me. Even though my wedding was two years ago, I still very much have a heart for weddings and helping brides focus on what’s important — building a day that reflects both the bride and the groom while focusing on the why of the wedding — the marriage. In addition to my job as a personal trainer and wellness coach, I also coordinate weddings part time, offering couples both perspective and a little elbow grease to make sure their wedding day is a success. I’m a huge advocate for life balance and I like to remind and encourage couples to keep their sanity — and a healthy relationship — in the midst of wedding planning.
