Pammie & Harris Wed in Maui, Return to Nashville for Reception at Cannery One

Friday, December 12, 2014

Pammie worked as a travel nurse in Maui in the past and the pair knew that they’d one day get married there. But after their small wedding on the beach in July, they followed it with a reception for family and friends one month later, where they fell in love and got engaged...Music City!

We love their wedding approach!  Fly to your favorite, lovely island with close friends, then return to a larger celebration.  Why not have the best of both worlds?  It's your wedding.

With one look at their reception photos, you'll agree that this couple did things their own way, from start to finish.

My Wedding Details

How would you describe your style as a couple?
Simple, dark, sexy, modern.

How did you incorporate that style into your wedding?
We went with an all black theme with touches of silver.  We wanted an amazing venue that would need very minimal decor.

What was your (or your guests’) favorite aspect of your wedding?
The cake pops were a huge hit!  People took the extras home as a wedding favor. I also think the guests liked the simplicity of our reception. It was all about good people, good food, good drinks and good music.

Where did you splurge?  Where did you save/DIY?
We wanted an amazing venue, amazing food and amazing music.  We definitely didn’t cut corners in those areas.  We felt those were the most important things for us.  We did the invitations ourselves which saved us a ton and looked great!  We also decided to go with candles instead of flowers — much cheaper — and they really went with the vibe of our reception.

Now that the wedding day is over, is there anything about your planning process you feel you could have done differently?
Honestly, no.  I know that sounds crazy, but I wouldn’t have changed a thing.  I did the ceremony and the reception separately which I really felt made things easier for me.  And I had Sarah Willard with Music City Events. She truly was a blessing and took care of even the smallest things. She didn’t give me a chance to stress.

In one sentence, what words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?
Have fun and enjoy the process. It’s a once in a lifetime experience.

For many women, their fascination with weddings fades after they say, “I do.” Not for me. Even though my wedding was two years ago, I still very much have a heart for weddings and helping brides focus on what’s important — building a day that reflects both the bride and the groom while focusing on the why of the wedding — the marriage. In addition to my job as a personal trainer and wellness coach, I also coordinate weddings part time, offering couples both perspective and a little elbow grease to make sure their wedding day is a success. I’m a huge advocate for life balance and I like to remind and encourage couples to keep their sanity — and a healthy relationship — in the midst of wedding planning.
