Kyle & Kelsey Choose Nashville for Their Destination Wedding & Showcase Some UT Pride!

Thursday, July 3, 2014

We're heading out for our 4th of July holiday but wanted to share a great Nashville wedding for your holiday enjoyment!

Many of you already know that Nashville is a fantastic city, a great location for destination weddings, and a place with lots to do & see. With thousands of couples coming to Tennessee each year for their big day, Kelsey & Kyle were in good company for their 2013 wedding. Downtown Nashville provided plenty of sights and sounds for their guests, and a long weekend allowed them lots of time to explore all that our city has to offer.

When Kelsey & Kyle started to plan their wedding, they looked to several possible locations. With her family in Arizona, his family in Nashville, and their current home in Pittsburgh, Music City  was a happy medium for their traveling guests. Working with aVenue’s city-chic vibe, they combined the desert’s sage green and Tennessee’s  signature orange to create a color palate that was warm and inviting. Throwing in great food by Chef’s Market, a delicious cake by Dulce Desserts and lots of upbeat music, this wedding was a celebration to be remembered!

My Wedding Details

How would you describe your style as a couple?

Kyle and I are very relaxed and laid back as a couple. We like to have fun and don’t take ourselves too seriously. We love hanging out with family and friends and just want everyone to have a good time.

How did you incorporate that style into your wedding?

I knew I wanted to have a comfortable feel to our wedding, I just wanted everyone to have a good time and feel at ease.

I’m from Arizona and most of my family is either there or in the midwest. Kyle grew up in Colorado and his family moved to Nashville right before he started high school. We both have lived in Pittsburgh for about 5 years when we got engaged. We knew no matter where we got married people would have to travel so we wanted to go some place fun and a place where most of our guests had not been. I have always loved going down to Tennessee and love the relaxed feel of the city and the fun vibe. I liked the feel of a barn or loft for a wedding, we live in the city in Pittsburgh and love being downtown. I had been looking all over for a venue like aVenue and just stumbled on it online when I was searching for venues on the internet from Pittsburgh. The vibe and feel of aVenue INSTANTLY fit our personality, Kyle knew it when we walked into the venue and saw my face.

Although we were getting married in Tennessee I still wanted some of my Arizona feel at the wedding which is why I chose the sage green color/cacti color, the orange was for one reason - Kyle is a Tennessee Vol and had to have orange at the wedding. The worked well and I love the combination. I would love to take credit for the decor but Sarah Ann was AMAZING and just describing what kind of feel we were going for she took it from there. We seriously were blown away with everything and all her ideas. When we saw the venue decorated for the first time we were speechless. We brought a little Pittsburgh to Nashville with our favors and brought our favorite coffee and gave away coffee beans in mason jars (we are caffeine addicts), we also used these as name cards.

What was your (or your guests’) favorite aspect of your wedding?

Firstly, being in Nashville really was a highlight for everyone. We took full advantage of everyone being there for the long weekend and everyone enjoyed exploring Broadway and downtown Nashville. Our family and friends just kept telling us how much fun they had and how much the wedding just felt like Kyle and I. The decor and feel of the venue was perfect. The cake and food was amazing, the music kept everyone dancing all night long.  I think that’s what Kyle and I loved the most as well, everyone had a great time and everything just felt like us.

Where did you splurge?

We definitely splurged on the photographer and food.

Kyle is a photographer himself and we knew we had to have the best and Jessica was amazing. She was another great find, she shot our best man’s wedding a couple months before us and we were looking for a Photographer. He said he loved his photographer and felt so comfortable. One hour long phone call and we fell in love with Jessica - well worth the splurge and more. We also made sure that we booked her to cover the entire day from the start of getting ready until we took the Trolley around town.

We also splurged on the food, we both felt that good food is well worth the money and makes a big difference. Chef’s Market was a fantastic recommendation and they customized the menu for us - down to the brussel sprouts and Fajita Bar.

Where did you save/DIY?

We saved by doing our own favors - we were able to work with our favorite coffee place to get them to roast a large amount of bean for us to give as favors. We also pulled together our own welcome bags with some Nashville goodies to give all of our out of town guests.

Now that the wedding day is over, is there anything about your planning process you feel you could have done differently?

Honestly, we loved our entire wedding planning experience. Granted the strain of planning long distance is a little stressful but having a wedding planner, more importantly, having Sarah Ann as a wedding planner really helped lessen the stress of planning a long distance wedding.   In one sentence, what words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?  Try to enjoy the planning process, it is fun, but know that there will be stressful moments; it is all worth it in the end when you are were there with your family and friends and it is the best day ever.
