Crystal & Corey Host Homemade Wedding at Owen Farms with Couple Projects; Family Help Galore
Friday, January 30, 2015
A sunny day in September sounds like the perfect recipe for a wedding on a farm located on the bluffs of the Cumberland River, northwest of Nashville. Corey & Crystal added in a heaping scoop of handmade decor, a dollop of homemade comfort food & a serving of professional entertainment to make their wedding day one their family would surely enjoy and remember! With a tree-lined field providing a cozy ceremony location and gorgeous red barn serving as their reception backdrop, Owen Farm was the perfect setting for this laid-back couple to kick up their cowboy heels and celebrate their union while they danced the night away under the stars.
While DIY may be a popular trend in weddings over the past several years, it’s usually the bride who is the DIY queen with the groom providing some advice from the side. Not so for Corey & Crystal! This couple upped the ante and worked together to equally create personalized details for their big day, saving money while spending time together and enjoying their engagement. To see all the fun details they created to make their day special, read the full post below.

Wedding Details
How would you describe your style as a couple?
We both enjoy the simple things and old or homemade items. Our love for both all things outdoors and family makes our style laid back yet fun and friendly.
How did you incorporate that style into your wedding (e.g. décor, colors, details or even picking the venue)?
We did things our own way. We had bridesmaids and groomsman stand on both sides of the aisle and I (the Bride) walked down the aisle to a friend singing “She’s the whole damn thing” We took a lot of time to focus on what made the day special to us rather than focus on traditions.
We picked Owen Farm because of its beautiful scenery (especially ceremony view) as well as the “family” feel owners Trace and Anissa brought from our very first meeting. Our style was an extension of who we are. We wanted to make everyone feel comfortable with a laid back setting.
What was your (or your guests’) favorite aspect of your wedding?
The guest really enjoyed how unique so many details of the wedding were. They loved the DJ as he kept everyone from ages 2 to 70 on the dance floor all night.
Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?
We splurged on the photographer, being a mutual friend and knowing her quality of work it was a no brainer. The photos turned out better than we could have ever imagined. We saved on décor, invitations, signs and many other items by making them ourselves. The groom spent just as much time making all the little details as the bride. We also saved on the food; we served BBQ with all the sides all made by the Bride, family and friends.
Now that the wedding day is over, is there anything about your planning process you feel you could have done differently?
Don’t worry over the little things, they all work themselves out in the end.
In one sentence, what words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?
Enjoy your engagement and all the memories you create as a couple during the planning of your big day, you will never again be in that phase of life as a couple and it is truly something to cherish.
