The Old School: Nashville’s Hidden Farm to Table Wedding Venue

Tuesday, July 12, 2016

Just 10 minutes from downtown Nashville is a hidden gem: The Old School. The name is exactly what it's history holds - the venue is a refurbished 1936 schoolhouse. Situated on nine acres of farmland, The Old School has plenty of space for your Nashville wedding. The Old School's Farm Bar serves as a restaurant by day offering farm to table cuisine grown right on the property.

The Old School's Music Room showcases local artists on the stage frequently. It also serves as a great wedding reception venue or rehearsal dinner space! With the prohibition-style bar, gunmetal chairs and farm tables, The Old School is bringing 1930s style and farm to table straight to your wedding.

As a functioning non-profit, The Old School provides job training for individuals with disabilities. Every time you eat or drink at the farm, you are giving back to the community! It's a great place for the couple looking to make a difference by giving back to the local Nashville community through their wedding or rehearsal dinner.

I don't know about you, but I'm so down for trying one of those delicious looking farm burgers and seeing the historical space!

Find more information on The Old School on their Facebook and Instagram pages.

Dani + Sean’s Classic Tennessee Farmhouse Wedding

Friday, July 1, 2016

Dani has been a dear friend of mine for years - we were roommates at one time and even went to Europe together! And when she found the man of her dreams, Sean, her eyes would light up every time she talked about him. I knew it was a match made in heaven! Experiencing this beautiful outdoor Tennessee farmhouse wedding first-hand, it was a day full of love and warmth. Sharing the incredible photos by Brad + Jen (Q Avenue Photo) bring back all the amazing memories from the day. Especially the ending... you'll see why I chose this wedding to lead you into the 4th of July weekend. ;)

Dani + Sean Stewart

How did you guys meet?

Sean: Dani and I had a common group of friends for several years and one night I was writing and studying at Ugly Mugs with our mutual friend, Jamie, when Dani walked in with another mutual friend. Jamie introduced us that night for the first time. We continued to see one another in friendship settings for years until real feelings started to stir on both sides.

Tell us about your engagement!

Sean: Without going in to too much detail, I had a multilayered deviousness fest going on and was able to plan a trip to Seattle from Nashville for the two of us. Dani thought we were going on a friend-venture trip with our dear friends Leigh and Liz Klemmer. I had hired a professional photographer who lived in Seattle through a mutual friend in Nashville. The day our friends were "supposed" to get to Seattle, I convinced Dani we needed to meet up with an old friend in Seattle at Gas Works Park (she really likes that scene in 10 Things I Hate About You, you know, the paintball scene) just to say hello. We walked around the park for a while just taking in the scenery of Seattle and the water and I slyly made eye contact with said photographer whom I'd never met. We stood at a really great spot overlooking the city, I got down on one knee, she said yes! and then I revealed the hidden photographer. It was so much fun and actually worked! She had no idea.

What was the vision for your wedding?

Sean: Our main vision for the wedding was that we wanted a comfortable, yet breathtaking, venue where we could throw a fun party. Luckily we had all of that with the addition of family sentiment at her parents farm down in Columbia, TN. The ceremony was in front of an old barn lifted by fresh greenery and flowers. Then the wedding guests were led around the tree line toward the garden where there was a tent and dance floor surrounded by farm tables in the open air. It was comfortable, beautiful, relaxing, and a ton of fun!

What was your theme and what inspired it?

Sean: It was definitely a modern farm wedding. Everything looked as though it were straight out of Pinterest (I'm sure most of it was).

What details were used to create your theme?

Sean: Flowers were mostly white and green and took on a more natural theme. Everything from bouquets to table runners were white and green and classy.

Can you share any special moments or highlights from your wedding day?

Sean: We absolutely loved our photographers Brad and Jen Butcher. They were 100% experts at what they do and made the entire day relaxing, fun and romantic. With a de-stressed environment as much as we could create our guests were able to head right from the ceremony to the reception and indulge in the Grilled Cheeserie and Rolling Feast food trucks. The weather was so superb that everyone was able to spend the May evening in comfort and stayed to dance throughout the night. BUT, our favorite part was being sent off with fireworks booming behind us and making our escape in a white Studebaker.

Is there anything else you'd like to share about your wedding?

Sean: Our main goal for the evening was to not let stress ruin everything and relax. We wanted to enjoy the night, take it one moment at a time and try to remember everything. We really wanted to be able to look back and remember the occasion fondly knowing that fun ruled the evening and not stress or fear.

I absolutely love how they incorporated personal touches like the coffee mug favors (Sean co-owns local Nashville coffee shop Steadfast Coffee) and cake baked by Dani. The surprise fireworks at the end with a Studebaker exit was the cherry on top!

Hope y'all are inspired by this incredible Tennessee farm wedding - have an amazing 4th of July weekend!

Venue Overview:

The Loveless Barn accommodates weddings of any size and any style with a versatile main hall, two covered porches, large lawn and private paved courtyard. The Harpeth Room is ideal for bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, and even intimate ceremonies.

When was Loveless Events established?

In 2009, the Loveless Barn was built to be Nashville’s most versatile event venue. The Harpeth Room, once the original Loveless Motel dining room, was renovated in 2013 to accommodate smaller events with 20 to 75 guests. Loveless Events encompasses both venues as well as an incredible catering team, serving any venue or home in the Nashville area.

What is Loveless Events' motto or philosophy?

Couples who want a perfectly appointed wedding, with a touch of Southern flavor choose Loveless Events for their special day. Our event professionals work with brides and grooms to design a memorable wedding that is welcoming, just like the iconic Loveless Cafe.

What options does Loveless Events offer?

With two event venues - the Loveless Barn and the Harpeth Room - we have several space options for ceremonies and receptions as well as rehearsal dinners, showers and parties. The Loveless Barn is Nashville’s most versatile venue, with a private courtyard for the most beautiful outdoor ceremonies, the main hall for your reception, and a large lawn and two covered porches that are perfect for cocktail hour. The Harpeth Room accommodates 20 to 75 adults; perfect for rehearsal dinners and bridal showers, or even an intimate ceremony inside or on the front porch. We do not have any overnight accommodations on location.

What types of spaces are available?

The Loveless Barn has a main hall, large lawn, two covered porches (open-air but can be closed in bad weather), and a private paved courtyard. The lawn and courtyard can be tented. The Harpeth Room is a single room with private restrooms and an outdoor porch.

How many people can you accommodate?

The Loveless Barn can hold anywhere from 50 to 1,000 people, depending on event details like seating and meal type. The Harpeth Room accommodates 20 to 75 guests. What most people don’t know, is that it does not cost to have both your ceremony and reception with us!

How many events do you take per day?

During our busy season, it is not out of the ordinary for us to take one event in the Barn, one to three Harpeth Room events and also a few off-site catering events. We base our business on the complexity of the event and are always looking ahead to make sure we can give our best level of service to all clients and guests.

Is outside catering allowed?  Do you require couples to use a set list of caterers?

Loveless Events provides all catering in our venues. The Loveless Events culinary team tailors their experienced talents to your tastes with a variety of menu options, from casual southern cuisine to elegant plated dinners and creative action stations.

Is outside alcohol allowed?

Loveless Events provides all alcohol in our venues as well as our own TABC certified/licensed bartenders. Outside alcohol is not allowed but we will work with your budget and preferences.

Is an on-site event coordinator available?

Our Sales & Event Managers are very involved with the planning and execution of your wedding. We work out all details in advance with you, then the week of your wedding we meet with our Operations Team as well as the Event Supervisor who will be present the day of your event from start to finish to go over everything. Although we do handle many details of your event, you may want to hire an actual “day-of coordinator” to assist in setting up floral arrangements and décor, helping your bridal party with cues down the aisle, motioning when its time for the first dance, cake cutting, couple’s exit, and other things of that nature.

What is your pricing model?

The venue rental cost includes our inventory of tables, chairs and church pews. Menu pricing includes standard flatware, glassware, china and linen plus a four-hour event. The standard contract time for a wedding is 2:00pm to 12:30am. When you arrive at 2:00pm, your tables, chairs and linen will be set and ready for your vendors to start customizing the space. When your event has concluded, we just ask that you take out what you brought in (décor, floral arrangements, gifts, cake, etc.) - we will handle the rest of the clean up! Also, don’t forget that we have over 100 parking spots plus overflow parking – for free!

Which bride budget do you serve?

We work with all brides and all budgets! The Barn and the Harpeth Room are beautiful spaces that can be dressed up with lighting and draping for the extravagant bride, or left as-is for the budget-conscious bride – there are many options for everyone.

What attracts couples to Loveless Events for their wedding?  What are your key selling points?

Couples are attracted to Loveless Events because of our history with the Loveless Cafe as a Nashville icon since 1951, our specialized spaces for weddings and parties of any size and any style, our abundance of free parking, and the amazing food our catering team can prepare! We don’t have any hidden fees. We are invested in every couple and truly want to make your special day wonderful! Our process and pricing is easy to understand, budget friendly, and customizable for every couple, every wedding.

What makes Loveless Events so unique?

What makes us more unique than other venues is our passion about what we do! Our name is on every client that walks through this door so it is our belief and attempt to make everything perfect from your first site visit to the final invoice. We have the best people in Nashville in their roles from our kitchen team, operations team and sales team, we have professionals who have been through it all! Check out our team here.

What else should brides know about Loveless Events?

That is was built to make memories! We have a private courtyard that is perfect for your ceremony—a lawn you can expand out to for yard games and cocktail hour and a fully air conditioned and heated main hall. Our Barn can accommodate any weather, guest count or group scenario and we are ready to prove that to you! Also, not only is the Barn perfect, but the Harpeth Room is the missing piece to Nashville offering a private space for rehearsal dinners and bridal celebrations from 20-75 guests!

Thank you so much for sharing, Loveless Events! We are honored to have you as an ABG Vendor! Stay tuned to find out more about Loveless Events' food and catering options. Yum!

Wedding Details:

Tell us about you as a couple.

Haley: Chappel and I have a deep passion for music that we’ve both been fortunate enough to turn into careers. We absolutely love Nashville and enjoy exploring our city. We love to travel, go to shows, and spend time outdoors.

Tell us about the vision for your wedding.

Haley: We wanted an intimate wintery wedding that would feel both rustic and very Nashville.

What was their theme and what inspired it?

Evvivia Events: Winter/rustic/intimate

What details were used to create the couple's theme?

Evvivia Events: Their colors were very natural with white/cream/gold and very subtle pops of hunter green and a deep red. The florals truly made the vision come to life and brought the outdoors in. From the birchwood branches hanging over each farm table to the live trees with twinkling votives hanging from the branches as you walked down the aisle, it was a romantic winter wonderland. The rustic looking carrot cake flavored wedding cake that resembled a tree trunk tied into the theme and all of the small details incorporating moss and pine cones into the centerpieces just topped it all off.

Can you share any special moments or highlights of your wedding day:

Haley: When I first walked down the aisle.  It was the first time I saw the incredible décor Jan put together (and the aisle was definitely the best part).  The doors opened and I was looking down a perfect walkway draped in amazing birchwood branches covered in hanging votive candles.  And at the end of the aisle was my perfect groom standing under a beautiful archway of white flowers.
