Long Hollow Gardens is one of my new favorite venues! I was thrilled when Anjeanette Illustration Photography submitted Courtney + James' wedding. Courtney + James have traveled throughout the US and Europe for their careers and both found their way back in their home state of Tennessee. Elements of European style mixed with Southern culture were sprinkled throughout the gorgeous garden wedding. And with the cool summer breeze flowing through the greenhouse doors, the wedding guests enjoyed visually stunning decor while celebrating the newlyweds.

Tell us about the couple!
Anjeanette: Courtney and James are both native Tennesseans. James went to college in Kansas City, where he obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts, and then continued his studies at Boston University where he obtained a Master of Fine Arts. He has spent time in Italy, interning with the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and exhibiting his own art show in Venice. He is presently represented by Tinney Contemporary in Nashville. Courtney graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Belmont University and then went to Knoxville for a law degree. She then clerked at the federal court in Knoxville before moving to New York City to work as a corporate restructuring attorney. Family brought James and Courtney back to Tennessee, where James opened a therapeutic skincare business with his parents, Perrin Naturals. Courtney moved back to Nashville to be close to her parents, continuing her legal practice in Nashville. James and Courtney met at Germantown Cafe almost two years ago, uniting over a love of long discussions, art and travel. James proposed on Christmas Eve, tucking away the ring in a book of poetry.
Tell us about the couple's vision.
Anjeanette: Courtney and James wanted a ceremony that was a mixture of traditional vows with personalized contemporary vows. For the day as a whole, they wanted to be surrounded by loved ones and to have a visually beautiful wedding, with lots of flowers and personal touches for the guests.
What was their theme and what inspired it?
Anjeanette: The theme was never really classified, per se, but it was inspired by Courtney's love for the French rustic aesthetic, James's love of candlelight, and their mutual love of nature and plants. They chose to have a unique modern greenhouse & garden, ceremony in the round with delicate rose blooms and peonies bouquets. The reception was held in a lush glass top greenhouse with succulent decor and rustic chic accents.
Can you share any special moments or highlights of their wedding day?
Anjeanette: James and Courtney most enjoyed being surrounded by loved ones. James's nephew, Charles, had been in a bad motorcycle accident several months earlier. It was unclear whether he would be able to attend, but he attended! Many of James's and Courtney's friends live far away. To have friends travel from all over the places -- including Chicago, Denver, New York City, Vermont, and the UK, among other destinations -- made them feel very blessed.
Did they have any special requests or unique challenges that you had to work together to overcome (ie rain, etc)?
Anjeanette: Intially there was concern about the heat index, however during the ceremony light breezes floated in and the sunlight made for a rich golden cocktail hour with plenty of fresh cold drinks like ginger mules!
Thank you so much Anjeanette for sharing Courtney + James' gorgeous wedding photos!

It's steamy here in Nashville this week, but Amy and Josh's Cheekwood engagement session is easy breezy! Amy's flowing dresses (yes - outfit change!) and Josh's dapper duds are perfect for this spring garden escape. Jon Reindl's artistic talent shines through capturing the photos of the beautiful couple and also the lush landscape. I'll let Amy tell you about their budding love story:
Amy Dauman + Josh Pohl
Proposal Date: December 19th, 2015
Engagement Shoot Date: May 1st, 2016
Location: Cheekwood Botanical Gardens
Photography: Jon Reindl Photography
Tell us how you first met:
Amy: Josh and I met our freshman year at The Ohio State University. Josh is from Cincinnati, Ohio and I am from Orange County, CA. We lived on the same floor freshman year and became friends pretty quickly. I remember the very first time I met him- I walked down the hallway to go talk to one of the girls (there were only 3 or 4 of us that moved into the dorms early), and I saw him helping her with her TV and I ran away. I'm not sure why, but I got really nervous and didn't know what to say so I ran back to my room and waited a few minutes before I went back in to say hi. He asked me to be his girlfriend March 10, 2009 in my dorm room. I was 18 and he was 19. We had been hanging out for weeks, playing football outside, getting ice cream together, listening to music. It took us 3 months before we said "I love you's" and I don't think either of us thought that it would be the last person we would say that to.
When did you know he was the one?
Amy: I really can't pinpoint a certain moment when I *knew* he was the one. We did long distance for 3 years after undergrad- very long distance. Josh was working for University of Illinois and I was attending graduate school for physical therapy in San Marcos, CA (a halfway point between Orange County and San Diego). We saw each other every 3-4 months for a few days. It was a very difficult and extremely stressful time for both of us. Josh's job is very demanding and he was at times working 100+ hours a week. I was in an accelerated program for Physical Therapy, and was either in class or studying all day every day, and I wish that was an exaggeration. We had to plan Facetime or phone call dates, which often fell through due to other things coming up. But, in August of 2015 I graduated with my Doctorate in Physical Therapy and he flew out for my graduation. I think I knew that weekend that if could make it through that, we could make it through anything. He proposed to me 4 months later.
Tell us about the proposal!
Amy: We went to Cincinnati for Christmas with his side of the family and we had planned a trip to Columbus. Leading up to this day, he started leaving me these baby blue cards that said "just a note" on them. He left me one for 9 days straight with a "reason why he loved me" on the inside- he would put one in my lunch, in my bag for work, on the bed. The night of the proposal, he took me to the Melting Pot beforehand for dinner and then we walked around the outdoor mall (Easton), which is one of my absolute favorite places in Ohio. After that, he suggested walking around campus, which I thought was a bit odd because it was cold and dark. But I agreed because he seemed so excited to be back. We were walking down to Mirror Lake on campus, and the trees were all lit up around the lake. As we began to walking down the steps to the lake, but he abruptly stopped because there were two people in the walkway. One was sitting on the bench and the other had his back to us. I jokingly turned to Josh and said "What? Do you think they're having a moment?!" And he said yes, and led me down the other way. He stopped me to "take a picture" for my mom, then pulled out a card. The note that he handed me at the lake was #10. When I opened the card, and it was blank on the inside, I knew that he was going to propose. He got down on one knee and told me that he wanted to be with me forever. Honestly, I wish I could remember more of this speech, but I think I got too nervous and excited I blacked out. Anyways, I said "of course". Quickly after that, I realized that the couple that was on the path, was one of my best friends and her boyfriend who were there to take pictures for us. And Josh's two best friends (co-bestmen) came out from the other side of the lake with champagne for us. We went to a bar in downtown Columbus and met up with about 12-14 of our friends. After a long night of laughter, happiness, support, and love, he surprised me with a beautiful hotel room at the one hotel on campus. We got up the next morning and had brunch with his two friends and their girlfriends. It was very meaningful to both of us, laid back and a lot of fun.
What is the one thing you love most about each other.
Amy: I think it would have to be his sense of humor and goofiness. We do not take much seriously and laugh all the time. If I had to pick one thing I love most about HIM, it would be his selflessness.
Besides getting married - what’s the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?
Amy: Having our families together for once. Since our families live across the country from one another, this is probably the only time we will all be together. This is the huge driving force behind our wedding and we are beyond excited and grateful for our families support and presence.
Thank you Jon for sharing Amy + Josh's photos with us!

Just 10 minutes from downtown Nashville is a hidden gem: The Old School. The name is exactly what it's history holds - the venue is a refurbished 1936 schoolhouse. Situated on nine acres of farmland, The Old School has plenty of space for your Nashville wedding. The Old School's Farm Bar serves as a restaurant by day offering farm to table cuisine grown right on the property.
The Old School's Music Room showcases local artists on the stage frequently. It also serves as a great wedding reception venue or rehearsal dinner space! With the prohibition-style bar, gunmetal chairs and farm tables, The Old School is bringing 1930s style and farm to table straight to your wedding.

As a functioning non-profit, The Old School provides job training for individuals with disabilities. Every time you eat or drink at the farm, you are giving back to the community! It's a great place for the couple looking to make a difference by giving back to the local Nashville community through their wedding or rehearsal dinner.
I don't know about you, but I'm so down for trying one of those delicious looking farm burgers and seeing the historical space!

If you're going downtown for the 4th of July fireworks display this weekend, then you may notice the new kid on the block: The Valentine. Located in the previous home of The Boot Factory, The Valentine houses multiple event spaces on 4 stories right on Broadway in downtown Nashville. The space features areas for live music, a restaurant, a patio and a rooftop deck overlooking the beautiful downtown buildings and riverfront. What more could a city bride ask for?
With easy access to many of Nashville's tourist attractions, your guests will have a ball exploring the downtown scene before and after your wedding. Heck, you might as well make a wedding weekend out of it!
We're loving The Valentine's indoor vintage, ecclectic and industrial look. You'll feel as though you've traveled back in time to the 1920s prohibition era! And as you walk up to the rooftop deck, you feel as though you're at an outdoor cabana overlooking the Cumberland River.
And if you're in the market for a wedding venue with a view of downtown Nashville, The Valentine is definitely a contender!
All photos from The Valentine's Facebook and Instagram.
Visit The Valentine's website for more information and contact them to tour the space!
